That’s what I used to think... but they have been investing heavily and used to have many western professors and adapted lots of methods ... there are some interesting Chinese schools that while may not look like much or be well known, that’s where everyone from the communist party does to.... Tsinghua for example. Business works differently in China. You can’t evaluate schools same where you would in US or Europe or even Hong Kong.
Obviously not everyone wants to go to school in China and not everyone wants or Ken have a career in China. They’re a big barriers to entry with language. But if you look at the progression of a HKUST and CEIBS over the last 15 years, Shanghai has been gaining steam and Hong Kong has been declining in part because China has been growing in Hong Kong has lost some of its luster and power....
It does not make CEIBS a better school for everyone though. I don’t think it carries much brand recognition outside of China... but if you’re planning to work with China even outside, the degree will be very valuable. Going to school in Hong Kong is not the same as being in Shanghai for a Chinese person....
Anyway, it’s just like tools, a screwdriver is for screws and a hammer is for nails. Both schools have their strengths and purposes....
