The schools can both place you into IB with nearly the same effectiveness. The additional scholarship money at Cornell is great to have so you are less financially burdened. Additionally, the recruiting aspect is likely to be virtual in the fall with COVID still lingering (personal assessment). If you are truly open to both locations then I would lean towards Cornell.

The more I read, look at the variants, and think about it, the more it seems that COVID will be lingering in the fall as well. Perhaps schools will get students vaccinated at some point but it is hard to see things going completely back to normal. So I agree and would presume next fall will be somewhat lame as well :(

Hey, I have recruited primarily for consulting but my friends did recruit for IB. Stern has very structured process for IB and I assume all schools are same in that regards but Stern also has few on campus events which I don’t think is the case with Cornell.

Besides, IB recruitment is primarily based on networking and Stern has a lot of alumn in IB and that makes a big difference.
And unlike others I believe next fall will be very close to normal (may be I ma biased because of my self interest). But 40% from Cornell won’t make me choose it over Stern.

But that’s my personal opinion.
At the end, both are great schools.

Both programs place 'well' into IB, the difference is at NYU you'll get more looks from the BBs/EBs VS Cornell where you'll get more looks from the middle market banks. It's conceivable to make it to a top tier bank / group from either, but you'll have a much better shot at NYU (location, alumni network, history of recruiting, etc...).

Also - after converting your IB internship to full time, at NYU you can 'test out' other internships during your 2nd year. Say you want to spend a day at a small PE or HF, this is possible at Stern since you'll be in NYC. It helps broaden your network if you want to eventually leave banking. This is just not possible in Ithaca.

Best of luck!

In this case, I would choose Cornell Johnson, for a student, the scholarship will never be superfluous!

Hi all,

I was admitted to both Cornell Johnson and NYU Stern. Cornell offered me a 40% scholarship but NYU didn't offer anything.

I'm from Colombia and looking for a career in IB in the US after my MBA. This is my main decision factor and I am quite open to both locations.

If you've not yet decided, perhaps the two links in my signature block below will help ... and ... if you have decided, please let us know which direction you went! :)
