How to Delete a post in the forum?

Question

Hello Guys,

I am trying to delete a few posts I made, but am unable to do so.
I neither see the small red cross button nor the edit button on the posts.
Could someone please help me figure out how to delete posts?

Weirdly enough, I see the cross and all the other buttons on the bottom of this post I made. 
But unable to find them on the other posts. 
Is there a time frame to delete a post from the forums?

You can only delete your post before a reply was made to a discussion. After that you can only edit it.

One more doubt guys... can we also delete our reply to someone else's post... if we are the last in that thread?

As bb mentioned, you can delete if no one has replied. Give it a try.

BTW, wondering why would you like to delete so many posts?

But I don't see any Edit option also for my post that I need to edit.

In that case, it may be in a forum where you can't edit it (the forum is locked)

That post is posted in the SC archive Forum, which is READ ONLY. You will notice that reply and new topic are grayed out and a reply box is missing. 
However since the post had no discussion or participation, I will go ahead and remove it.

Is there any way to recover my deleted posts. I accidentally clicked on the delete button and whooshhhh it was gone. I had spent half an hour writing that reply

Not really. Sorry. The only thing I can think of is that the person you were replying to, likely received a notification about your reply with the text of your reply. They would be able to potentially repost it.

A bunch of older topics were edited and some posts got deleted. So, there is nothing wrong with your account.

Hi. My guess is that is probably a part of the moderation process and cleaning of the forums that many of the moderators in the verbal and Quant questions perform when merging topics. Sorry about that. It’s nothing against you, just cleaning short replies and preserving key posts. Example of this could be short replies in reading comprehension discussions or unrelated comments in math topics or just banter back-and-forth. We usually delete several hundred posts per month in Q/V forums from previous 10 years. Usually we don’t delete posts that are less than a year old and usually it’s not an issue with the authors because they have long since left the site but I guess it is in this case
