There is 1 water lily at the beginning.
After 1 day, there will be 2 water lilies.
After 2 days, there will be 4 water lilies.
and so on till the pond is covered in 30 days.

What happens if we start with 2 water lilies? We are at the same state as we were at the end of Day 1. So we will take another 29 days to cover the pond.
All that happens is that we save 1 day in which 1 water lily had doubled to become 2 water lilies.
