Hi ks4196,

Inconsistent practice test scores are usually a sign that you do not have a full grasp of GMAT content. Generally, you will score higher on tests in which you are tested on familiar content and lower on tests in which you are tested on unfamiliar content. I am happy to provide some further advice on how to proceed, but have a few questions for you:

1)) Describe your study routine. For how many hours a day have you been studying and for how many total months? What resources have you been using for your prep?

Hi, yes.
As I mentioned Whenever prob, pc , rate and work qs come I am still unclear on those topics. Working on that.
I have gone thru the manhattan notes and og 2016( a little while back), and notes from gmsat club-currently.
I started preparing few months back but my link was broke in August because of projects, etc.
MY SC has improved significantly after Manhattan and CR improved slightly after powerscore, I get entire RC passages wrong of 700-800 level which pulls me down.
I am not having a timing issue yet.
In quant at times I do get a little bumped if I am aware that in the past 2-3 questions I didn't do well.
Also, can you tell me IF I had to guess few questions on quant in which range of questions should I do that? starting/ towards the end?
I have not taken gmat prep tests because I am saving them for 1st and 10th october.
I plan on doing MSF from USA.

Hi ks4196,

Since your CAT scores are fluctuating, we should start by discussing how you've taken these CATs:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE?

in the first MGMAT and Veritas I didn't attempt Essay and IR
Yes,at home.
No, not the same time. Also, I strongly feel my first MGMAT Mock 560 could have been better had I not given the mock coming home tired.
I paused the CAT during my very first CAT, after that no.
No not the same CAT,
But yes 2-3 questions over the MGMAT CATS I had seen them before, for eg in yesterday's CAT, I saw on CR question that I had previously tried and for some reason one of the answer choices was stuck in my head and I selected it, and it was wrong.
Also, so I want to practice GMAT type questions, should I practice the 90qs in gmat prep software or will they repeat in the exam?

Hi ks4196,

Based on everything that you've described, you've been taking your CATs in an inconsistent way. Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your scores can become - and that's what happened here. By skipping sections, taking the CATs at home, seeing repeat questions, etc., you weren't properly training for the FULL GMAT 'experience.' As such, it's difficult to state what your current ability level actually is (I would guess that it's probably around 600-620 though). Given your score goal, and the fact that your Official GMAT is in about 2 weeks, you might want to consider pushing back your Test Date. You will likely need at least another 1-2 months of consistent, guided study to hit your goal score.

You should plan to take a new, FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon - and make sure to take the CAT under realistic circumstances (away from your home, at the same time of day as your Official GMAT, etc.). We really need a realistic score to properly assess your situation and create the proper Study Plan going forward.
