(2) One-half liter is $$\frac{1}{12}$$ of the capacity of the aquarium.

We are to find the total capacity X of aquarium.

(1) Three liters is $$\frac{1}{2}$$ of the capacity of the aquarium.
$$3L = 1/2*X$$ we can find X. Hence sufficient!

(2) One-half liter is $$\frac{1}{12}$$ of the capacity of the aquarium.
1/2L = 1/12*X we can find X. Hence sufficient!

Hence Option (D) is our choice.

Best,

Target question: What is the capacity, in liters, of a certain aquarium?

Statement 1: Three liters is 1/2 of the capacity of the aquarium.
If 3 liters = half the capacity, then 6 liters = the entire capacity
The answer to the target question is the capacity is 12 liters
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: One-half liters is 1/12 of the capacity of the aquarium.
Let C = capacity
So, 1/12 of C = 0.5 liters
In other words, C/12 = 0.5
Multiply both sides by 12 to get: C = (0.5)(12) = 6
The answer to the target question is the capacity is 12 liters
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Cheers,
Brent
