Hi all,
I have the statistics to get into HBS- including a preliminary read from an admissions officer saying I would get an interview for sure. I also have a potential recommendation from a large donor for Columbia. If I do ask this person to do the recommendation, I think I would need to go to Columbia even if Harvard admits me because if I do not, it would be disrespectful. Essentially, with good essays, greater than 760 GMAT, close to admissions at Harvard, do I forgo the high profile recommendation to Columbia, or do I take it and accept that if I do get into Harvard and Columbia, I will need to pick Columbia?
Clearly I understand the selectivity of HBS, so I get that not taking the recommendation would be a large risk, so an answer pointing that out would not be helpful.
Hi
extrakangaroo22 hope you are well
Firstly, congratulations to you on getting such positive feedback from HBS given how intensely competitive their admissions process is!
Secondly, in my humble opinion you should be honest and share the feedback you received from HBS with your recommender, and yet show a strong interest in Columbia's MBA program. If anything, this person would be pleased and honored if he gets to refer an exceptionally promising candidate for Columbia's program. Life is too short to not take chances. Therefore do not overthink and give your best shot at both the schools. If you eventually get admits from both, you will not be judged for your preference for HBS.
Best wishes to you
