X is divided by 5, the remainder is 2.

So, X could be 2, 7, 12, 17...........

X + 3 = 2 + 3 = 5

X + 3 = 7 + 3 = 10

Ultimately , we will have a multiple of 5.

Option B:

9X - 3 = 9*2 - 3 = 15

9X - 3 = 9*7 - 3 = 60

Least possible value of x = 2

Now (x + 3 ) or 5 is a multiple of , now check the options

(A) 8*2 + 7 = 23 ( NOt possible)
(B) 9*2 - 3 = 25 (Possible)

Now need to go any further, Answer must be (B)

I got the question right by plugging in but is there a way to solve this mathematically (other ways than plugging in) Re: When the integer X is divided by 5, the remainder is 2. Which of the   [#permalink] 16 Oct 2019, 05:54
