Zhenek
Hello. I am 25 and I graduated from university (MSU of Lomonosov) like 4 years ago and I've been working since. My job though isn't related to management or anything. My specialization is also not in economics or management - its math&programming basically, and thats what my job is about - a Bio-statistician.
In the future I was considering going into finances and management. My dad works in a similar field and he took MBA course which was apparently needed, so this leads me to believe that I need to complete MBA program and thus GMAT is the first step. It was a decision I made a couple of years ago, so I registered on this forums back then to start things off slowly. Earn some kudos to get access to
gmatclub tests and whatnot. Right now though I feel like time has come to decide once and for all if I should go all-in or drop this idea off completely.
Question: will my shabby working experience (I mean, I do good at my job and get praised and whatnot, but that's not the work of a manager), quite crappy GPA actually (like really damn crappy, something like 1,8 from 0 to 4 scale if I remember correctly, maybe even less) let me even be considered for anything in top100? I mean, my math skills are quite good, scored 50 on the first CAT I did. English though does require some work (scored like 30), but that is not a problem at all for me, I can allocate time and if I know that its not wasted basically.
Thanks in advance.
Hey dude,
Good to hear from you.
So first of all the vast MAJORITY of MBA applicants don't have management experience. So it's pretty normal. There are plenty of finance people, accounting people, teachers, who apply to an MBA because JUST like you they want to move into management.
Your GPA is a bit problematic that is true, but it CAN be offset by a great GMAT. Maybe not enough to get into Top 10 or even Top 20 MBAs, but Top 50 for sure!
Now, I'd LOVE to help you out and get down with your profile.
The thing is I am missing detail.
I need a LOT more info from you - school name, employer name, titles, promotions, greatest achievements, volunteer work, sports, community service, religious involvement, leadership.. etc. before I can give you a real evaluation.
It will also be very helpful if you can elaborate upon your goals.
Have a look at some of the other very detailed profile requests on this board and do something similar and I'll be happy to get back to you.
Best,
JF
