Hello all,
My GMAT journey thus far began well over a year ago when I enrolled into a 6 week GMAT prep class in Toronto early 2016. Prior to starting this class, I had no previous experience with the GMAT. In hindsight, it seems like this class would have been better for those individuals that were already studying for a few months, hitting low scores and were looking for strategies to increase their score by 100+ points. I wrote an initial diagnostic test in February as the class instructors requested scoring a
IR3 Q18 V22 Total 370 . After the class finished in April, I wrote another test in June scoring
IR2 Q38 V23 T:520. I got distracted because of work and stopped studying for 2-3 months. After that hiatus, I wrote a test in August scoring
IR5 Q31 V18 Total Score 430 In late September, I did a
Magoosh test scoring a
Q29 and V23 Total score of 440. After a consultation with my GMAT professor, he reviewed my results and said ''I was equally as bad in both Quant and Verbal''. My problem was I did not have a firm understanding of the foundations of both V&Q.
Around October after a few weeks of more studying using
Magoosh(got the premium package on sale for $99
), I wrote another practice test and scored
IR3 Q27 V28 Total470. After leaving work in late December, I stumbled across gmatprepnow.com and started going through that learning guide to learn the foundations. After 2 weeks of doing only Quant (loving it so far, currently on Algebra topic), I wrote a diagnostic test today as per the guide using the GMATprep test...scoring around
IR3, Q38, V30, Total 570. While writing this test, I realized during the math section I was running out of time and nervously guessed a lot of the questions. For some reason I feel very confident about verbal as a native speaker but the GMAT begs to disagree. I completed the test in its entirety doing both the IR and Essay component to the best of my ability. I have not really focused on IR or AWA which I am saving for later.
My test is booked for Feb 25th. The minimum score I need is a 600 but it will definitely help the higher it is, thus my goal is a 630. Deadline for september admission is June 1. What I need as per website "Recommended verbal score of 28, and a recommended quantitative score of 37. A total score of 600 is normally competitive."
Looking back I realized I made a very novice mistake a lot of test-takers make when beginning my GMAT journey which is to write a lot of practice tests without a firm grasp of the foundations. My question for the GMAT experts is what can I do now until test day to maximize my potential of scoring high? I plan on doing another test in 2 weeks time around the end of the month before I start doing 1-2 practices a week leading up to the exam. I plan on continuing my learning of the foundations and split my days learning both Quant and Verbal. Currently I spent 5-7 hours going through Quant modules on GMATprep now and doing all the practice questions on the forums related to the topic I am studying. I want to know what particular practice exams I should tackle next. Again, I have full time to study for this and any advice on how I should structure my studying sessions + what particular sections to focus on is welcome.
