In his 1922 novel Ulysses, James Joyce references Professor Julius Porkorny’s theories on Irish mythology; since Professor Porkorny developed his theories in Vienna during the same time period wherein Joyce wrote his novel in the nearby city of Zurich, the inescapable conclusion seems to be one of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of Joyce’s work of that period.

(B) conclusion seems inescapable that part of Joyce’s work of that period was influenced and shaped by Porkorny- Option B, The only option that makes sense.

I think C is correct.

The sentence starting with Since... presents a reason for the following statement.
Hence, The conclusion of ..needs a verb later in the sentence.

A - incorrect. Conclusion should be the subject.
B - incorrect. Not a good sentence structure.
D - having been influenced is incorrect here.
E - would have is incorrectly used here

My thoughts on this are:

B is the only option where the meaning is intact; in other answer choices the original meaning is distorted

C seems the best answer. It clearly pictures the fact that given the location proximity between the two authors, it seems inescapable that the work of on has influenced the others.

Option (D) is more precise, grammatically sound, and effectively conveys the idea that part of Joyce's work in the specified period was influenced and shaped by Professor Porkorny.

(A) seems to be one of... can be better constructed, also inescapable as an adjective to intensify conclusion is not needed, sounds redundant.
(B) conclusion seems inescapable makes more sense meaning-wise, and this option is better constructed, meaning comes out easily
(C) conclusion of is incorrect... conclusion that seems more appropriate
(D) unnecessary twist in verb, have been etc not needed
(E) seemingly cannot intensify inescapable, as inescabale sounds absolute, intensifying it using adverb is not needed.

(A) inescapable conclusion seems to be one of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of Joyce’s work of that period

"one of Porkorny" is illogical. It gives a meaning that there are more than on one of Porkorny. Hence eliminate this.

(B) conclusion seems inescapable that part of Joyce’s work of that period was influenced and shaped by Porkorny

The sentence is correct and conveys logical meaning.

(C) conclusion of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of Joyce’s work of that period seems inescapable

conclusion of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of this part of the sentence gives an illogical meaning to the entire sentence. Hence, we can eliminate this.

(D) conclusion of part of Joyce’s work of that period having been influenced and shaped by Porkorny seems inescapable

"having been influenced" is incorrect. Hence, we can eliminate this option.

(E) seemingly inescapable conclusion is that Porkornoy would have influenced and shaped part of Joyce’s work of that period

would have is used for hypothetical events. Eliminate this option.

By plugging in all the options, option C is the only option that makes sense as intended by the sentence hence is the correct answers.

(A) inescapable conclusion seems to be one of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of Joyce’s work of that period.............Inescapable conclusion seems changes the meaning. Modifier error.
(B) conclusion seems inescapable that part of Joyce’s work of that period was influenced and shaped by Porkorny...........Inescapable should modify the conclusion. It should be as close as possible. Meaning distorted.
(C) conclusion of Porkorny influencing and shaping part of Joyce’s work of that period seems inescapable........placement of inescapable is wrong. it is being used as object to the verb Seems.
(D) conclusion of part of Joyce’s work of that period having been influenced and shaped by Porkorny seems inescapable........Same as C
(E) seemingly inescapable conclusion is that Porkornoy would have influenced and shaped part of Joyce’s work of that period.............This is correct. Seemigly is modifying inescapable and inescapable is modifying conclusion.

OA should be E.

1. A is awkward.
2. C and D use conclusion of'.. instead of conclusion that, hence gone.
3. E uses would have' which is not making sense at all without the if clause, and 'would have' is not making sense with the conclusion part as well.

The conclusion is that "Porkornoy would have influenced and shaped part of Joyce’s work of that period", which should be stated as a proper clause (with subject and verb). Failing to do that results in awkwardness seen in option (A)(C)(D), which should be eliminated right away.

Now compare option (B) and (E).
In (B), "the conclusion seems inescapable” feels unnatural; the use of passive voice "was influenced and shaped" is not conducive to straightforward discourse.
There is nothing against (E).

My choice is thus (E).
