(A) This option is correct grammatically and logically - including the use of the pronoun "it", placement of may someday and the usage of "to try to".
(B) Incorrect - "to try and clone" is more awkward and lengthy than Option A
(C) Incorrect - with the placement of Someday later in the sentence, it shifts the focus from the potential future value of the action to the action itself.
(D) Incorrect - "to try to clone" in Option A is better than the option here "to try for the cloning of"
(E) Incorrect - "to try to do" is wrong here and Option A is better.

Side note: Bunuel : Shouldn't the question read, "..at present this process is prohibitively expensive"?

All the options are grammatically correct, the closest are A and B, Option B, changes the meaning slightly by putting emphasis on someday.

(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile.

This option maintains the original meaning of the sentence while being clear and straightforward. The other options introduce unnecessary complexity or awkward phrasing.

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption (Use of it is not necessary, moreover sentence structure is not parallel)
(B) Someday, it may be worthwhile to try and clone animal tissue for consumption (Someday___, but at present___. Both are parallel)
(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile (Use of passive speech is not necessary)
(D) To try for the cloning of animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile (Use of for is incorrect)
(E) Cloning animal tissue for consumption may be worthwhile to try to do someday (Parallelism issue)

Answer is B, which have 'someday' placed at correct position, providing the clear contrast with 'but, at present'.
Rest options are awkward and have incorrect placement of 'someday'.

'To try to' is the correct usage instead of 'to try and'.

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption..............Seems fine

(B) Someday, it may be worthwhile to try and clone animal tissue for consumption.............Idiomatically incorrect.

(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile...............highlighted portion changes the meaning of the sentence.

(D) To try for the cloning of animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile..................unidiomatic construction “to try for”

(E) Cloning animal tissue for consumption may be worthwhile to try to do someday.................'to try to do' is lengthy and redundant.

OA should be A

(A) It is acting as an indefinite pronoun without antecedent, can look for a better option
(B) It is acting as an indefinite pronoun without antecedent, can look for a better option
(C) meaning is off, trying won't be worthwhile, and actually cloning will be
(D) awkward construction
(E) makes the most sense structurally and meaning wise
E is correct.

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption

Correct as it is.

(B) Someday, it may be worthwhile to try and clone animal tissue for consumption

The usage of try and clone is incorrect.

(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile

Trying to clone is a modifier. However its misplaced as we do not have any subject that it modifies.

(D) To try for the cloning of animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile

Changes the meaning and is verbose. Option A does a better job at conveying the meaning.

(E) Cloning animal tissue for consumption may be worthwhile to try to do someday

Illogical. Who is trying to clone. The sentence conveys an illogical meaning.

IMO A

I went with C

A: uses the passive voice/introduces an unnecessary subject/infinitive combo (i.e. 'it may someday be worthwhile to try to clone')

B: same issue as A

C: This uses a direct subject (trying to clone animal tissue for consumption) and does not introduce any superfluous language

D: This uses the infinitive incorrectly and uses some weird mixed tenses (to try for the cloning...)

E: 'to try to do' is a little clunky, and does not seem as 'correct' as C, which is not a great explanation but thats how it went for me!

I think the answer is B

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption
to try to clone sounds clunky
(B) Someday, it may be worthwhile to try and clone animal tissue for consumption
correct answer
(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile
"trying" - this tense usage is awkward
(D) To try for the cloning of animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile
"to try for the cloning" is very clunky phrasing
(E) Cloning animal tissue for consumption may be worthwhile to try to do someday
"to try to do" - again clunky phrasing

Ok let's see, i have to stretch with the explanation but I'll try anyway.

A)what 'this process' refers to is unclear. Trying to clone animal tissue is not a process. Cloning the animal tissue is the process.

B) 'try and clone' does not clearly tell us what exactly we are trying. 'try to clone' would be clearer.

C) Same as A, trying to clone is not a process. Cloning is the process.

D) 'Try for the cloning' conveys incorrect meaning in this context. It seems to mean that - we try something to get the result of cloning.

E) The construction might seem awkward but it conveys our idea. 'this process' correctly refers to 'cloning animal tissue'

The correct and most concise option is (A):

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption

This option avoids word fluff and is the most grammatically accurate. It links the terms 'someday' and 'at present' with the phrase in between them

(A) It may someday be worthwhile to try to clone animal tissue for consumption -> needlessly wordy and takes emphasis off subject
(B) Someday, it may be worthwhile to try and clone animal tissue for consumption -> puts too much focus on someday, rather than cloning for consumption
(C) Trying to clone animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile -> feels wrong, not sure why
(D) To try for the cloning of animal tissue for consumption may someday be worthwhile -> needlessly wordy
(E) Cloning animal tissue for consumption may be worthwhile to try to do someday -> begins and focuses the sentence with the subject, correct
