Jordan estimates he will watch 10 movies each month.

If he chooses subscription A: 20 + 5 * 10 = 20 + 50 = 70
If he chooses subscription B: 40 + 10 * 4 = 40 + 40 = 80
He saves 80-70 = 10

Cost for subscription A for 10 movies:

20 + 5 * 10 = 70

Cost for subscription B for 10 movies:
40 + 10 * (10 - 6) = 80

Savings from subscription A over B is $10 and cost of subscription A is $70

Hello ,
Subscription A cost for total 10 movies will be
monthly fee+per movie price
20+10*5= 70
Subscription B cost for total 10 movies will be
monthly fee+per movie price
40+(10-6)*10=80
Total cost of subscription for A is 70
Amount saved will be 80-70=10

Cost of subscription A for watching 10 movies each month - $20 (monthly fee) + $5 per ticket for each movie = 20 + 5(10) = $70
Cost of subscription B for watching 10 movies each month - $40 (monthly fee) + $10 per ticket for (n-6) movies = 40 + 10(4) = $80


Therefore, amount saved by choosing subscription A over subscription B for watching 10 movies in a month = 80 - 70 = $10

X will be the number of movies.

Subscription A: 20 + 5X
Subscription B: 40 + 10*(X-6)

Given that X=10 -> Cost of subscription A= 20+5*10=70
Cost of subscription B= 40+10*(10-6)=80

Now, we need to be cautious, as they are asking for the amount saved, not the cost of B. 80-70=10.

Correct answers: 70 and 10

For A, monthly fees = $20 and price of ticket/movie = $5
So, watching 10 movies through A will cost = 20 + (5*10) = $70

For B, monthly fees = $40 (with 6 movies free/month) and price of ticket/movie (after 6 movies) = $10
So, watching 10 movies through B will cost = 40 + (4*10)= $80 [Since, 6 movies will be free].

Therefore, amount saved by choosing A over B= $80 - $70 = $10.

Calculating the Cost for Subscription A and Cost for Subscription B for 10 movies:
A : 20 + 5*10 = 70
B : 40 + 10*4 = 80
By going for A, Jordan ends up saving 10

Cost for Subscription A can be calculated as 20 dollars + 5*10 dollars per movie= 70 dollars

Cost for Subscription B can be calculated as 40 dollars +(10-6)*4= 80 dollars

Hence cost for Subscription A is 70 dollars & the cost savings are equal to 80-70=10 dollars

In TPA questions it’s always better to form a strategy first before solving. Well this is a detail bulky question so it’s better if we take notes on our notepad.

The question stem tells us that;
  • Subscription A has a monthly fee of $20 and charges $5 per ticket for each movie
  • Subscription B has a monthly fee of $40, allowing him to watch up to 6 movies per month at no additional cost, with a $10 charge per ticket for any movies beyond the 6
  • Jordan estimates he will watch 10 movies each month.(M=10)

And we have to find;
  • the total cost of Subscription A for watching 10 movies
  • the total amount saved by Jordan by choosing Subscription A over Subscription B for watching 10 movies

Let's form a table for easy comparison;

SUBSCRIPTION ASUBSCRIPTION B
20+5m40+10(m-6)
20+5*1040+10*(10-6)
20+50=7040+40=80

So, the total cost of Subscription A for watching 10 movies=70, and

The total amount saved by Jordan by choosing Subscription A over Subscription B for watching 10 movies=80-70=10

Hence we can choose these respective options.

Total number of movies watched in 1 month = 10

Subscription A = 20(monthly fees) +5(charges per ticket)*10(total tickets) = $70 (this is our first selection)

Subscription B = 40(monthly fees) + 10(charges per ticket) *(10-6(6 movies included in monthly fees)) = 40+10*4 = $80

Savings = 80 - 70 = $10 (this is our second selection)

Given:

Subs A--> Monthly Fees 20$ + 5$ per movie
Subs B--> Monthly Fees 40$ + 10$ per movie after 6 movies

Jordan estimate watching 10 movies in a month


Cost of watching 10 movies in subs A:

20+5x10
-->70$

Cost of watching 10 movies in subs B:
40+ 10x4
80$

Amount Saved = Costs in subs B - Costs in subs A
--> 80-70
