Prediction : Iin ten years, the percentage of Velorians who engage in volunteer activities will likely remain stable or even increase.

We have to strengthen this prediction.

A - This means that over 30 group who are contributing more already, if they are greater in number, then it would increase the percentage. KEEP

B - Although it would mean that more non profit oragnisations would be there for more people to engage in, but this change has occurred in the last decade, it's effects should be visible now, not in future. Moreover, this does not directly address why the overall percentage of participants would stabilize or increase. ELIMINATE

C - Irrelevant. Doesn't matter what regular volunteer is. ELIMINATE

D - This only weakens. Past history wouldn't affect what's going to happen. ELIMINATE

E - Similar to option D. doesn't matter what has been the traditional case. ELIMINATE

Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest grounds for the nonprofits' prediction?

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30. This seems a little confusing because how can number of people below or above 30 can contribute to what will happen after 10 years, as argument seems to be talking mostly in percentage whereas here we see a number difference confusion which can be a significant or subtle difference between these two groups, hence difficult to predict anything. We don't know anything about how will the fraction of people under 30 will participate in volunteering when they switch groups to above 30 within the span of next 10 years, so in a way this statement seems pretty neutral in itself.
(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade. Good to know but doesn't help us strengthen our argument.
(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month. Irrelevant
(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today. This seems to be doing exact opposite of what we need. If we predict this trend on volunteering participation decreasing over years then there's a high chance that it will further decrease after 10 years proving nonprofits' prediction untrue.
(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low. This is an interesting choice, although pretty neutral at first glance, it seems to be giving a subtle strengthening information. If we compare the past and the present, we can conclude that the people who are participating regularly in the over 30 group were also at some time in the past not an active volunteer. This can mean that maybe people increase their volunteering activity when they age over 30 and if we extend this pattern to the future then the current low participation in the under 30 group shouldn't be a worry as when they age over 30, they might also start participating more which can keep the current participation percentage stable or may be increase it in the future.

This is a strengthening question.
The nonprofits assume that factors other than the low volunteer rate among the younger population will ensure stability or growth in overall participation.

A - If the younger population is smaller, the higher volunteer rates among the older population could sustain or even increase the overall volunteer percentage. Correct.
B - This might lead to more opportunities for volunteering, but it doesn’t directly explain why the rate will remain stable or grow. Eliminate.
C - The definition of "regular volunteer" doesn’t explain the prediction. Eliminate.
D - Historical trends might provide context, but they don’t explain the future prediction. Eliminate.

A Strengthener Q,
let us look at the Conclusion then,
- After some years the percentage of Velorians who volunteer will remain stable or even increase.
In order to reach this conclusion Argument is also mentioning that Younger People contribute a large segment among the population, yet they are 18% while over 30 people contribute 30%.

now let us look at the options:

(A) If this is the case then it is saying that larger group of 30+ people are volunteering hence they are larger meanwhile smaller group hence smaller % of 30- people,
and this is supporting the conclusion that same population will keep doing the volunteering work,
hence strengthen the argument.

(B) More people can serve different different nonprofit organizations or some can left their existing and can join the new one,
so we are not sure about those people who are not doing any Volunteer work upto now will join new or old nonprofit organizations,
so not much effect on the Argument,
reject this one as well
The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.

(C) Irrelevant information as knowing the definition of Volunteer is not effecting the argument.

(D) We cannot predict future from Past data hence reject this one

(E) Traditionally low rate has no guarantee of future rate, hence reject this one as well

Hi All,

IMO , A is the answer because the higher proportion of over 30 vlouneer will still drive the volunteer activities whereas the under 30 poplations is also increasing so no of under 30 people will also increase hence total volunteer population will increase

therefore A is the answer
