Hi everyone :)

This is a strengthening question.
The nonprofits assume that factors other than the low volunteer rate among the younger population will ensure stability or growth in overall participation.

A - If the younger population is smaller, the higher volunteer rates among the older population could sustain or even increase the overall volunteer percentage. Correct.
B - This might lead to more opportunities for volunteering, but it doesn’t directly explain why the rate will remain stable or grow. Eliminate.
C - The definition of "regular volunteer" doesn’t explain the prediction. Eliminate.
D - Historical trends might provide context, but they don’t explain the future prediction. Eliminate.
E - This is consistent with the data but doesn’t explain why the overall rate would remain stable or increase. Eliminate.

Our answer is A

Answer is E.

Reasons that could support prediction: Velorians volunteer more as they get older, young Velorians might start volunteering more, older Valerians might start volunteering more, the population of volunteers will stay the same or increase but the total population will decrease.

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30. Incorrect because >30 has a greater portion of a larger population, which would only make the difference between <30 and >30 more significant.
(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade. Incorrect because passage does not discuss how the number of nonprofits in Veloria impacts the portion of volunteers.
(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month. Incorrect because definition of regular volunteer is the same for both segments.
(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today. Incorrect because that would show that overall volunteer rates have decreased over time and might continue to decrease, contradicting the prediction.
(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low. Correct because shows that a low rate amongst current <30 population is in line with historical trends but eventually rates increase as population ages and reaches >30 as they have currently.

The nonprofits predict that in ten years, the percentage of Velorians engaging in volunteer activities will likely remain stable or increase.

(A) compares the population sizes but does not directly address the future trend of volunteer participation. Eliminate
(B) talks about the number of nonprofits, which might suggest more opportunities, but it does not directly address the future behavior of volunteers. Eliminate
(C) clarifies what "regular" volunteering means but does not provide insight into the future trends of volunteer participation. Eliminate
(D) mentions historical trends, but it’s not directly linked to the prediction for the future, especially since the prediction focuses on the younger demographic. Eliminate
(E) strengthens the prediction because it suggests that while the current rate of volunteering among Velorians under 30 is low, this has been a longstanding trend. This implies that the low participation rate is not an anomaly or recent decline but a consistent pattern. Therefore, it makes sense that nonprofits expect future engagement to be stable or possibly improve, as it aligns with a consistent trend in volunteer participation. - Correct Answer

Research in the nation of Veloria shows that only 18% of Velorians under 30 volunteer their time, while over 65% of Velorians over 30 participate in volunteer activities regularly.

Nonprofit's prediction: Despite the younger population forming a significant segment of society, nonprofit organizations predict that in ten years, the percentage of Velorians who engage in volunteer activities will likely remain stable or even increase.

Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest grounds for the nonprofits' prediction?

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30.
This is the case today but prediction is about ten years in future. This statistics may not remain the same in coming years.
Incorrect

(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.
The prediction is about next decade and NOT about past decade. The increase in the number of nonprofit organizations may or may not be same in next decade as it was in past decade.
Incorrect

(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month.
The prediction remain unaffected by the definition of a regular volunteer. The definition also remains unchanged for prediction about next decade.
Incorrect

(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today.
If the percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today, there is nothing given which will help us determine what will happen in next decade, whether the trend continues or changes.
Incorrect

(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low.
Since none of the other choices can explain the prediction. The fact that the rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low is the best choice available and explains lower percentage of volunteer participation by Velorians under 30. Therefore, despite the younger population forming a significant segment of society, nonprofit organizations predict that in ten years, the percentage of Velorians who engage in volunteer activities will likely remain stable or even increase.
Correct

(A) This offers a compelling basis for the nonprofits’ prediction. Since the group with the lower participation rate (those under 30) is smaller than the group with the higher participation rate (those over 30), the overall percentage of volunteers is less impacted by the younger group. As individuals under 30 transition into the over-30 group with higher participation rates, the overall percentage is likely to stabilize or increase.

(B) Although an increase in nonprofits may imply more volunteering opportunities, it doesn’t directly address why the overall percentage of volunteers would remain stable or grow. The key issue relates to age-based participation rates, not the number of organizations.

(C) This point is irrelevant to the prediction. How "regular volunteer" is defined has no bearing on whether participation rates will shift over time.

(D) While this points to a historical decline in volunteerism, it doesn’t justify the prediction of stable or rising participation rates. If anything, it could suggest the opposite trend.

(E) This merely reiterates part of the research findings, offering no insight into why the overall volunteer rate would remain stable or increase.

Conclusion: ten years, the percentage of Velorians who engage in volunteer activities will likely remain stable or even increase.

Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest grounds for the nonprofits' prediction?

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30.
This even goes against the question, weakening the prediction

(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.
Nice to know but it's irrelevant

(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month.
Nice to know but it's irrelevant

(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today.
Nice to know but it's irrelevant

(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low.
I think this is not a clear solution, but I have to choose it because there's no better solution. Basically I'm inferring that it has been so for many years i.e. 30 years. So somehow people after 30 change, volunteering more.

The strongest support for the nonprofit prediction is Option B) The number of nonprofit organizations in veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.
More nonprofit organizations would provide more opportunities for volunteer work, potentially increasing participation.
other options don't directly support the prediction about increased volunteer participation
Therefore, Option B) is correct

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30.
This directly supports the prediction. If the population over 30 (which has a higher rate of volunteering at 65%) is larger than the under-30 population (with only 18% volunteering), the overall percentage of Velorians who volunteer will remain heavily influenced by the older, higher-volunteering group. Even if the younger group grows slightly, the larger older group ensures stability or an increase in the overall rate.
Correct (A).

(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.
While this may suggest increased opportunities to volunteer, it does not directly explain why the percentage of volunteers in Veloria will remain stable or increase. The focus is on the proportion of the population volunteering, not the number of organizations.
Eliminate (B).

(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month.
This is a clarification of the definition used in the research but does not affect the prediction about future trends in volunteering. It provides no new insight into why the percentage of volunteers will remain stable or increase.
Eliminate (C).

(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today.
This historical context may provide a trend, but it does not explain why nonprofits predict stability or an increase in volunteering in the next ten years. It focuses on past trends without addressing future dynamics.
Eliminate (D).

(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low.
This reinforces the current observation that younger Velorians volunteer at lower rates, but it does not provide a reason why the overall percentage will remain stable or increase. The argument needs support for stability or growth, not an explanation of current behavior.
Eliminate (E).

A Strengthener Q,
let us look at the Conclusion then,
- After some years the percentage of Velorians who volunteer will remain stable or even increase.
In order to reach this conclusion Argument is also mentioning that Younger People contribute a large segment among the population, yet they are 18% while over 30 people contribute 30%.

now let us look at the options:

(A) If this is the case then it is saying that larger group of 30+ people are volunteering hence they are larger meanwhile smaller group hence smaller % of 30- people,
and this is supporting the conclusion that same population will keep doing the volunteering work,
hence strengthen the argument.

(B) More people can serve different different nonprofit organizations or some can left their existing and can join the new one,
so we are not sure about those people who are not doing any Volunteer work upto now will join new or old nonprofit organizations,
so not much effect on the Argument,
reject this one as well
The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.

(C) Irrelevant information as knowing the definition of Volunteer is not effecting the argument.

(D) We cannot predict future from Past data hence reject this one

(E) Traditionally low rate has no guarantee of future rate, hence reject this one as well

so A is better among all.

Hi All,

IMO , A is the answer because the higher proportion of over 30 vlouneer will still drive the volunteer activities whereas the under 30 poplations is also increasing so no of under 30 people will also increase hence total volunteer population will increase

therefore A is the answer

Let's eliminate one by one to find the strongest grounds from prediction -

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30 - This doesn't help with the prediction that number of volunteers would remain stable or increase - ELIMINATE

(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade - We don't know if there's any impact of this on the volunteers - ELIMINATE

(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month - Nothing about definition can / need to be challenged as it'll remain the same in the years to come - ELIMINATE

(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today - This tells us that there's a decrease in the percentage of volunteers; weakening the argument - ELIMINATE

(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low - If this is the case, then their prediction makes sense. With age, percentage of volunteers increase & hence, the % would remain stable or increase - CORRECT

Why A Is Correct:
A states that the number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30.
If the younger population is smaller, their lower participation rate (18%) will have less impact on the overall percentage of volunteers.
As the younger group ages, they are likely to adopt the higher volunteer rates of those over 30 (65%), contributing to a stable or increasing overall volunteer rate.
This supports the nonprofits' prediction.
Why the Other Options Are Incorrect:
B. The increase in nonprofit organizations doesn’t directly explain why volunteer participation will remain stable or increase. More organizations don’t guarantee more volunteers.

C. The definition of "regular volunteer" is irrelevant to the prediction. It doesn’t explain why the participation rate will stay stable or increase.

D. A higher participation rate 25 years ago is historical information and doesn’t address the current prediction.

E. Knowing that volunteer participation among those under 30 has traditionally been low does not explain why the overall rate will remain stable or increase.

A. Incorrect. This statement negates the statement that the younger population in Veloria forms the significant segment of the society hence not true
B. Incorrect. This choice is irrelevant as we do not care about the number of NGOs but volunteers
C. Incorrect. The definition has no impact on the number of volunteers in the future
D. Incorrect. This is irrelevant as the past has nothing to do with the future
E.Correct. If this is the case then we have nothing to worry about the future because this implies those under 30 tend to get into volunteering once they get past 30

(A) The number of Velorians under 30 is less than the number of Velorians over 30.
This statement doesn't explain any change in volunteerism over time, nor does it explain why the current trend might change. INCORRECT

(B) The number of nonprofit organizations in Veloria has increased significantly in the past decade.
The increase in nonprofit organizations would indeed mean more opportunities for people to volunteer. However, simply increasing the number of organizations doesn't guarantee that more people will volunteer, especially if the core participation rates (18% under 30 and 65% over 30) don’t change. INCORRECT

(C) The research defined a regular volunteer as someone who volunteers at least once a month.
This clarifies what counts as "regular" volunteer work, but it doesn't provide any evidence that the rate of volunteerism will increase or stay stable in the future. INCORRECT

(D) The percentage of Velorians who engaged in volunteer work was higher 25 years ago than it is today.
This is a historical trend that indicates that volunteer participation has declined over the past 25 years. This trend suggests that volunteerism has been decreasing, which contradicts the prediction that the rate will either remain stable or increase. This option undermines the prediction and is therefore not helpful. INCORRECT

(E) The rate of volunteer participation among Velorians under 30 has traditionally been low.
This statement explains that the current low volunteer rate among younger people is not a new phenomenon. It implies that the low participation rate of under-30s has been consistent over time, meaning that the increase in overall volunteerism likely depends on the participation of those over 30 (who have a higher rate of volunteerism). This stability in the older demographic could mean that the overall volunteer rate is likely to remain stable or continue increasing over time, even with the younger population’s participation remaining low. This option strongly supports the prediction that the volunteer rate will remain stable or increase. CORRECT
