I took the GMAT this afternoon and score 670 (V35, Q47).
I studied fulltime during the last 3 months. When I took Prep Test 1 on Sept 07 as a diagonsis, I scored 510 (V24, Q36). I know that for me, Verbal is harder to improve than Quant, so I spent more time on Verbal than on Quant. As I spent 4/5 time studying Verbal, my Verbal score improved considerably. However, I underrated the Quant part
and spent barely enough time on it. That's why my Quant score is not as I expected.
I will get back to my Marketing job in January and that means I will have to combine working fulltime and studying for the 2nd attempt which I intend to have in April or May next year. For this post, I want to ask for advice from you guys on how to improve from 670 to 700+. I would appreciate any advice on study timeline, materials, courses,...
Below is my study timeline and materials used during the last 3 months:
- Sept 07: GMAT Prep 1 510 (V24, Q36)
- by end of Sept: study GMAT Manhattan (RC, CR, SC, and all Math books except Advanced book)
- Oct: during this first month of practicing OG questions, everything was slow - I spent plenty of time on each question, I took time to understand and memorize rules,...
-> SC: OG and VR 20 (2/3 month)
-> CR: Powerscore Bible (This book is a gem to tackle CR. think I will read it again to fully grasp it)
- Nov:
-> SC: OG 10-19 (I have just done with some 200 questions), eGmat posts on topics of SC
-> CR: OG 10-19 (about 60 questions)
-> RC: OG and VR 20 & some OG 10-19
-> PS: Gmatclub Mathbook, OG and QR 20
-> DS: OG 20
- Dec:
- Dec 10: GMAT Prep 2 630 (V36, Q40)
- 1 week before exam: do all DS in QR 20, review theories
- GMAT Test: 670 (V35, Q47)
For the next 3-4 months, I intend to
- buy GMAT Club test
- continue with OG 10-19 and Verbal + Quant Review 16-19
Some of my concerns:
- During my preparation, I didn't do any 700-level Quant questions because I didn't have enough time and I thought that just focusing on getting all 600-700 correct is enough to achieve Q49. But as you see, my Quant score is only 47. So should I study GMAT Manhattan Advanced book and do OG 700-level questions in the next months? Are there other sources to improve Quant?
- On the test day, I felt uncertain about most of CR questions. How should I improve CR?

- Quant:
GMAT Quant (PS) is way easier than Vietnamese (or Asian in general) Math for high-school. I think the best way to nail 50/51 is to have a brief look at those fundamental theories to polish your formulas and know-how. In addition, I would advise you to follow @bunnel for "tricky" DS section.
Hope you will soon ace your target!

First of all, congratulations, a 670 on the GMAT is a good score. A 160 point improvement in the overall score along with an improvement of more than 10 points on your Verbal & Quant scores speaks volumes about the kind of preparation you have put in.
I would however disagree with you on the part where you say you have not seen a considerable improvement in your Quant scores (or maybe you means not as much as you EXPECTED!). Form my POV, the improvement in your Quant score is more impressive, because a 36 on Quant is pretty low down in the score band whereas a 24 on Verbal is not all that low.
The first piece of advice I’d give you is to tell you to subscribe to an ESR. Once you have it, please get in analysed by a GMAT expert; this will help you identify at least a couple of areas in Verbal and Quant where you may not be doing all that well.
On the resources front, make better utilization of the resources that you already have – the OGs and the Review books. I’d probably buy the GMAT Advanced questions book if I were you; this is a great resource on legit 700 level GMAT questions. Here’s a link to a blog on how to improve your Quant scores:

For improvement on CR, taking up a few hours of Personal/Private Tutoring sessions might be a good idea. This will help you get a better idea of your strengths and weaknesses on CR and therefore help you plan strategies to tackle the different types of CR questions.
Lastly, I think you have given yourself a good 3 to 4 months for the retake, which makes a lot of sense. I think that should be enough time for you to cover all of the resources that you have and take sufficient mock tests to build stamina, before going in for the final kill.
