Hi guys,
So, I sat for the GMAT for the first time on 16th November 2019 and scored 660 (Q48 V33) IR7 AWA4.5 .
I was utterly dissapointed as I had been scoring between 700-730 in all the mocks I gave during my prep (
Experts Global and GMATPrep Mock 1 and 2 ). I figured what went wrong was that the verbal questions were tougher than what I had practiced (from
Magoosh and
OG) and as a result I got flustered by the time I reached Quants where time mismanagement led to my downfall. So anyway I decided to give it another shot.
This time around I decided to refer official material only and bought the additional question pack which had 404 questions. But by this time I was assigned a project in my job and hardly had any time to prepare. I had my test appointment on 27th December. So anyway, after my office closed for the year-end holidays I buckled up and managed to study regularly for a few days.
I ended up scoring a 680(Q48,V36) IR7. AWA score is yet to come. I am totally exhausted now and don't think I have the tenacity to give another attempt. Moreover, I am not even sure I need to give another attempt because I am mostly applying to Canadian B-Schools and the maximum class average there is 670 (Rotman).
Also, I am planning to apply 2 years later because by that time I'll have 3 years work ex.
Here are the schools I am planning to apply to -
1. Degroote, McMaster
2. Rotman, Toronto
3. AGSM, UNSW
4. Krannert, Purdue
5. Otago, New Zealand
6. DeSautels, McGill
7. Sauders, UBC
8. Schulich, York
9. NUS, Singapore
10. Katz, Pittsburg
My profile is - Indian, Male, IT. Currently working in Consulting ( Deloitte)
Would really love to get your opinions on the best way forward.
Thanks!
Posted from my mobile deviceHi again
I think that a retake won't be necessary but there are some firms that look at the GMAT score for assessment during placement
Take Deloitte and EY for example
Bain & BCG certainly do need a 700 for international candidates in USA, and it follows for some other countries
Anyhow, after an MBA if you apply to Deloitte of say Canada, I think they will still take you as you can still produce a reason to join back and contribute more
Retaking GMAT will definitely require additional official resources, limited as they are, if you got any left, there's no harm in trying
As I recall from the other chat of ours, You have about one year of work ex and next year if you apply, you'll have more by the time you join (assuming)
With a 730 and a good profile, probability is that even the top bSchools will take you
So, give it a thought
Retaking GMAT is absolutely strategic thing
Just retaking without any official resources can back fire as it did for one of my clients. Assess the situation, see if you have any official mocks left and then decide if you wanna retake
But yes, of course if you got stuff, retake, it is worth a try.
3 attempts won't ruin your chances of getting in be rest assured
