Hey folks,
Appreciate your opinion on the below please:
In recent talks with LBS students/alumni, many have pointed out that LBS is not as academically challenging as the top US schools can be. They have maintained that they learnt from their diverse peer set than in from their curriculum. Additionally, they reported that a few professors are somewhat laid back when it comes case study discussions in the classroom or pushing students to perform well in their group work. Now, I understand that a) this whole discussion could be very personal and b) LBS maybe needs to be less academically challenging so as to make space for its highly flexible program. However, in your opinion, do you feel the students lose out on the MBA experience when academic pressure is eased, particularly in terms of the bandwidth of their learning? Or do you think this aspect is well compensated by the flexible components of the program and what you make out of it? I am still trying to make up my mind on what takeaways I want from my MBA education and hence your opinion could be a good perspective to add!
Thanks!
Hey,
thanks for sharing that insight from your talks with students/alumni.
This is indeed an interesting question and I am curious to hear the opinion of some of the experts.
In general, I wonder whether there is a perceived difference in academic rigor between European MBA programs, which are generally shorter than their American equivalents, or whether this just pertains to LBS in particular.
Personally, I think the experience & networking part is a big part of any MBA but then again with LBS being an elite program, the perception of less academic rigor might be perceived as something detrimental. However, I am not sure whether one could just boil it down to a plus on Networking / Flexibility and minus in learning.
Looking forward to hear more people share their thoughts on this.
Regards,
Chris
