The meaning I got from this is that the entrepreneurs weren't useful thus far,as the word "their" indicates in the question.
Can someone explain why this is wrong?

You are right in your analysis, as long as this pertains to the original steem: answer A. This is the case of a dangling modifier.

However, if you look at the correct answer choice, which is D, the effect doesn't occur. Remember, "although" is followed by clauses and "despite" is followed by nouns (e.g.: Despite the rain, he went out).

I hope this is clear,

at first d is not clear . we do now know what is usefulness. but , this wording is accepatable. other choices contain clear ilogicness.

This isn't a great sentence in any version. A, B, & E are instantly out because they suggest that the entrepreneurs are limited in usefulness.

We're then left to wonder what *is* supposed to be limited in usefulness. It must be whatever the programmers have developed. However, C and D both use the vague phrase "the limited usefulness." In a proper sentence, this would be phrased as "its limited usefulness" (with "its" being the thing under development) or we'd see "the limited usefulness of X." We just don't have much to work with here. Left with a choice between C and D, we can avoid the unclear "C," which adds confusion and could even suggest that once again the entrepreneurs are "with limited usefulness."

D wouldn't pass by a watchful editor, but I guess it's all we have left.

(B) Based on the limited usefulness thus far, several of the entrepreneurs on the company board

(C) With the limited usefulness thus far, several of the entrepreneurs on the company board

We need contrast word here, so B, C, E are out.

Clearly, the thing that is limited in usefulness is what the programmers have developed so this choice has no logical meaning. (B) is incorrect as people cannot be based on anything (when starting a sentence with a participle like based, it must modify the noun that comes next) and a contrast word is required. In (C) you must have a contrast word – (C) suggests that because it has limited usefulness, the entrepreneurs expect it to be important! (D) is correct as the opening phrase is clearly referencing what the programmers have developed and has the necessary contrast word. (E) is incorrect as the opening phrase lacks the important “the” article to indicate that it is not modifying the several entrepreneurs. Also “limited in usefulness” is an awkward and wordy way to convey “limited usefulness” Answer is (D).

Here is my 2 cents for this SC problem.

(A) Although limited in their usefulness thus far, the company board’s several entrepreneurs
1: Their has not correct antecedent. Moreover, "limited in their usefulness" is modifying "the company board's entrepreneur s.

(B) Based on the limited usefulness thus far, several of the entrepreneurs on the company board
Dangling modifier error. "several of the entrepreneurs" are not based on something.

(C) With the limited usefulness thus far, several of the entrepreneurs on the company board
This is conspicuously wrong. prepositional phrase modifying the subject of attached clause. That is complete disaster.

(D) Despite the limited usefulness thus far, the several entrepreneurs on the company board
This option would have been much better if the main clause had been started with the program. However, the meaning is clear here. Sometime meaning over-weighs the grammar.

(E) While limited in usefulness thus far, the several entrepreneurs on the company board
While indicates the two clauses in same logical direction. But here we are seeing clear contrast in given problem statement.

In sum, D is winning option.
