B is my guess, but this one is tough.

I think you need "who" and D and E are too wordy for my liking.

"who" is better pronoun than that to refer people
A, C out.

between B,D,E
once have died looks good ..
one time died, two time died... thre time died... ??? akward..
chilhood ... old age.. (proper comparision ..)
B looks better.

Method: 1
Idiom: childhood is preferred over “as children”

Eliminate: A, C and E

Between B and D:

At one time – wordy where as once concise

“That” modifies things where as “who” modifies people.

So eliminate A and C

Between B, D and E

E – “When they were children” wordy – “childhood” is preferred
D - “one time” wordy – “once” preferred

B for me too. Rest of the choices look whacky.

(A) that might at one time have died as children
= out because “who” is better than “that”. At one time is wordy.

(B) who might once have died in childhood

(C) that as children might once have died
= out because “that as children” is wrong.

(D) who in childhood might have at one time died
= out because “in childhood” should better be place next to “died”

(E) who, when they were children, might at one time have died
= I guess E is out, because the structure is strange.
