With a GMAT score of 705 and a GPA of 3.6 from the University of Michigan, I am currently a Senior Analyst at McKinsey & Company. In this role, I have led teams on complex projects involving market research and strategic planning, achieving a 20% improvement in operational efficiency for a major client and earning the “Consulting Excellence Award.” Prior to McKinsey, I worked at Goldman Sachs, where I conducted financial analyses and developed valuation models, contributing to a 10% increase in portfolio returns.

I also co-founded the Community Business Initiative, a non-profit organization that provides business education and mentorship to underserved entrepreneurs. Additionally, I served as President of the University of Michigan Consulting Club, where I increased membership and organized successful case competitions. My international experience includes a semester abroad at the London School of Economics, and I am fluent in Spanish and English, with conversational skills in French.

My goal is to transition into a strategic management role within consulting or technology, focusing on digital transformation and business strategy. I believe an MBA will provide the advanced skills and professional network I need to drive significant organizational change and innovation.

Please evaluate thanks in advance

I graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay in 2012, where I built a solid foundation in technology and problem-solving. My professional journey began at Innovatech Systems, where I worked as a Product Manager from 2014 to 2018. There, I had the opportunity to manage the entire lifecycle of several key software products. I collaborated with international clients to tailor solutions to their needs, which helped increase client satisfaction by 30%.

Since June 2018, I’ve been working as a Senior Product Manager at TechSolutions Pvt. Ltd. Here, I led the development and launch of a new AI-driven product, which boosted our revenue by 25%. I manage a diverse team of 15, including engineers, designers, and marketers, and focus on using market research and customer feedback to shape our product strategies.

Outside of work, I’ve taken on several leadership roles that have been both challenging and rewarding. As President of the Tech Innovators Club at IIT Bombay, I organized workshops and hackathons to foster a culture of innovation. More recently, I led the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee at TechSolutions, working on projects aimed at community development and environmental sustainability.

I’m passionate about giving back and have volunteered with Teach for India, where I tutored underprivileged children in Math and Science. I also participated in the National Coding Championship in 2011 and won 1st place.

My achievements have been recognized with the Best Product Launch Award at TechSolutions and the Excellence Award at Innovatech Systems. I’m also certified as a Scrum Master and completed a Product Management Certification from Pragmatic Institute.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the prospect of joining ISB. I hope to gain deeper insights into strategic management and entrepreneurship to drive innovative product development. Ultimately, I aim to launch a tech startup that addresses critical societal challenges, leveraging both my technical background and business skills.

I am thrilled to share that I have joined the MBA program at Schulich School of Business - York University in fall 2024. Looking back, it has been a rollercoaster journey—from coming from a small town in India with scarce educational resources to graduating in Engineering, choosing an unconventional role to start my career, and founding a business. I dreamed of learning from a top business school, cracked the GMAT in a tense and short time, and am now proud to be a part of the prestigious Schulich School of Business, ranked #1 in Canada by The Economist, Financial Times, Forbes, and QS.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the management of the various organizations I’ve worked with for believing in me. Your encouragement means a lot! I am also thankful to my colleagues for their guidance, which has significantly enriched my career.

A special thank you to the co-founders at Axle Enterprise for their unwavering cooperation and invaluable support. Their contributions have been instrumental in our collective success.
I am grateful for the exceptional support and seamless experience provided by the Schulich School of Business team throughout the admission process and orientation. Their dedication and guidance have been invaluable.

Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to MBAandBeyond and Shivani Bhatt for making it possible for me to secure admission to Schulich. Shivani’s continuous guidance was instrumental throughout the entire application process.

This incredible opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of my parents and Urvashi Mudaliar. I will always be thankful to them for instilling confidence and supporting me in making crucial decisions in my life.

I am 29 male Indian, married. Graduated in 2017, B.Tech in ECE with 7.6/10 GPA from a tier 3 college(University of Calicut). Started working for an MNC in 2018 as a software test engineer for an insurance client. This job involved a lot of communication with various stake holders from US and India. Got promoted after the first year and went on to work for another 18 months in various projects, notably leading one of the critical initiatives that lasted 6 months and releasing it without any major issues. Later on i joined a blooming startup in healthcare sector but i only spent an year there as i was not satisfied with my work contributions and opportunities.

Currently working for Singapore based unicorn for the past 3 years in which i have been promoted from level 1 to level 2 this year. Here, i work as a single test engineer for my team with the goal of delivering bug free features. I work closely with my engineering manager and developers and have set up a testing process. I also implemented automated tests helping the developers test their changes quickly with 90% of the tests automated reducing the time needed by 90%.I also collaborate with product manager and designers and discuss on various issues that the users are facing and try to find a solution to it and leads the retrospective meetings of the team.

Outside work, I mostly enjoy watching sports and games. I also try to join various screening events happening in the city. I have also represented my school team for football, chess for the south zone level competitions. My dad is working as a cable agent and he is not keeping well with his health for sometime now, so for the past 7,8 years i have been helping him with various tasks that are needed to be done as most of it requires travelling to customer's place and interact with them and attend certain meetings with the stakeholders. I was also elected as the president of the department tech event in the college however the event did not happen due to certain unfortunate events in the college.I have also been a member of the judging committee for a college tech fest that was organised by our college. I also like to create tour itineraries as travel is something i enjoy. I always help my friends with their trip planning.

My goal post MBA would be to stay in the tech field itself but working at a different capacity preferably in Product management, Data science and analytics, Digital Marketing,Business development etc. I am exploring universities in Europe precisely as i have always dreamed of a European life.

Kindly review my profile and let me know what else i can improve. I am currently preparing for gmat and targeting 700~ score and all the profile evaluation tools are saying i am not that great of a candidate is making me a bit demotivated. And also not sure what colleges i should aim for

Hey Sivadasj4,

I am a software developer who moved into product management. I have helped quite a few mba candidates over the last few years with a product management story. But I haven’t seen someone with the ambition of moving from testing to product management yet - doesn’t mean you can’t, just stating my experience thus far. Did you have any PM like experiences in your current work? I actually even have a podcast on this topic of breaking into product management from non-traditional backgrounds: https://youtube.com/@wttispm

That being said, if you truly want to do some great product management US is the best place for it. Europe still has a few options, but I would recommend that you go with a different answer for your application. Also, what is your gmat/gre score?

Anyway, please DM me / respond to this thread if you want to chat further about this.

Best,
NK

Hey, sivadasj4

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile looks good on the surface. While your GPA is solid, aiming for a strong GMAT score will further strengthen your application. Try to build your network, and consider getting certifications like PMP or Agile that fit with your project management career plans. Keep going to tech events and doing community service too; these things can boost your application by showing you can lead outside of work. Your sports and event planning show you're well-rounded, which MBA schools often like. Talking about your work experience, you have a good years of work experience, which will help you bring stories related to leadership. International experience is the cherry on the top. Try to showcase your achievements and promotions to show yourself as a high performing individual. Overall, you have a good profile and do have a shot at Top Business schools. You can target a few schools in Europe and a few in US like T15.

If you’d like, we can discuss your profile further and help you refine programs that align with your career goals.

In my head Darden, Duke , Tuck, Ross seem all comparative, I am wondering if I should now aim for all ambitious schools in R2 like M7, or if I should still do one or two of Duke, Ross, Tuck for R2. I intend to go for Consulting post MBA, I am from an oil and gas background with 5 yrs of work ex in India and USA.

First of congratulations for your Darden admit with a $50k scholarship this is a great achievement and reflects the strength of your profile. With your 5 years of experience in oil and gas across India and the U.S., combined with your clear post-MBA goal of transitioning into consulting, you’re in a strong position for Round 2 applications. Darden, along with schools like Duke, Tuck, and Ross, are all highly regarded for their consulting pipelines, and your offer from Darden already gives you a solid option to fall back on. For the Class of 2023, consulting was a top career choice at Duke Fuqua (43%), Tuck (46%), and Michigan Ross (39.4%). For R2, you could consider aiming for the M7, such as Kellogg, Wharton, or Booth, which offer even greater access to top consulting firms and larger networks. However, given the competitive nature of these schools, it may be wise to include one or two additional programs like Duke or Tuck as a balanced strategy to maximize your chances. Schools like Duke Fuqua and Tuck might offer similar outcomes in consulting with a better chance of receiving scholarships, enhancing the overall value of the MBA. Best of luck in R2!

Hi vangoghskindle , I hope you are doing well ! Your profile brings strong leadership experience in public sector banking, diverse exposure across India (including rural financial inclusion initiatives), and good professional credentials. Congratulations on your current GMAT FE score of 715, it's really good! Given your 11 years of experience, some programs may question why you need an MBA now versus pursuing a direct leadership path. Your strong recommendations, extensive team management experience, and career impact are definite positives, the focus shall be on refined post-MBA goals beyond just salary, and your essays should clearly articulate your leadership potential and transition plan. You can take a look at this BLOG. If you are still planning to apply to the B-schools, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to learn more about your profile and provide a detailed evaluation and gauge your chances to the best-fit schools. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.

Wish you all the very best!
