Hi

I am an Indian Male. Age - 26 .
I have done my Engineering in Electronics from a good university in India. But instead of completing it in 4yrs, i needed another year to get my degree.
Plus my final GPA is also not good. 6.1/10
I have a work experience of 3yrs now in a software company which builds software for banks. I work as a Business Analyst.

I gave my GMAT already and scored a 600. I am going to give it again, this time with better preparation and hope to get above 700.

Looking at my profile can anyone suggest if it will be a good idea to even try for MBA from the best universities in the US?

Or is my profile soo bad that it won't even be considered by good/decent schools ?

Really worried

Please Help !!!

First Off don't worry. don't be depressed.

You have weak Acads. that you can cover up with a good GMAT 730-740.
And you can show that that the grades are not a real determiner of your skills and aptitude. Now for this, you need to present some examples from work. how you performed extraordinarily. second in outside work situation, volunteering, and social works. (basically, you need to show that besides bad grades you are a fabulous employee and a fabulous person.

So, if you are not involved in some social works, get on it.
work harder at the office. get noticed, get some shining promotion (i understand its hard to do) ...something that highlights your potential... and get a good recommendation from your boss.

And take time, don't rush on it. and definitely take some guidance from a consultant.

Hi Farrell

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I know my acads are really bad. But i don't have any social work experience either.

But I am musician. Have been part of band few years back. Was also part of my college's cultural team. And had won awards. Also was the head of the music section of my college.
Also managed a cultural team which won a prestigious drama competition.

Does this help?

Thanks

Hi harrylanka,

I’ll speak it straight. :|

You’ve few battles to fight.

    1. The two main determinants – GMAT and GPA - of your academic part are weak. Add to that an extra year to complete the degree. I don’t know if there is any solid reason to explain your GPA, but you can definitely work your butt off and push your GMAT score in 700 range to make amends for your GPA and be competitive at top-25 schools.

    2. You belong to an over-represented professional group of software engineers, who apply with astronomical test scores. And because you’re from an over-represented group, you also need to differentiate your applications in some way to stand out.

Hope I’m clear.
