“However, my resources are incredibly limited, and LBS hasn't awarded my any scholarships like Booth did, and I absolutely will need to get a job for at least 2-3 years after graduating to pay off the loans. “

Like I said, they’re both great brands and if finding a job is your short term objective-you’ll find a job at both schools.

But you have to think about your long term game plan and not a short term plan.

Some details:
* Interested in IB or Consulting.
* Am a US citizen (little freaked about Brexit as I'm not sure how well an LBS degree compares in the US if UK employment fails to work out)

1) LBS
* I feel strong fit with the culture. People are very warm, supportive and socially-minded. Would love to live in Europe.

2) Booth
* Booth for me is "security". My mind and heart says LBS but rationality says Booth 100%.

What I'd love to know is:
* Which one is better globally recognized?
* How do LBS and Booth compare? LBS is ranked higher but does that really matter? Probably subject to change after Brexit
* How bad is Brexit about to screw my dreams and ability to pay back my loans?

Congrats on your admits! I would not put too much weight on the rankings that combine US and International schools. It is really hard to compare them. I may get some flack but I will venture out to say that LBS Is ranked higher only in a few buildings in London. In the rest of the world Chicago Booth is rated higher.

It’s hard to tell what will happen with Brexit or any prediction of the future but are you planning to work in the UK? After graduation? Do you have a plan how to get a work permit and jump through hoops to even be eligible to work? If you’re planning to go back to the United States for recruiting, then you have no business going to LBS.

I feel Booth would be an easy choice. It is a very very strong program for consulting (esp the more interesting strategic roles in the Chicago office). I don’t have as much info on IB but I have seen people comment that there is on campus recruiting as well. Perhaps jessepinkman can weigh in.

One note about consulting, the best roles go to the applicants who are the most persistent at the end. It really helps to have some great brand names and to be under 30 to fit the recruiting parameters.

I have been fortunate enough to have been admitted into both LBS and Booth. Having a tough time making a decision and would love to hear any views/thoughts on the matter.

Post MBA goals:
MBB or IB

LONDON BUSINESS SCHOOL

Pros:
* Stronger community because of the strong cohort structure
* Fantastic opportunity to see more of Europe
* Much more diverse student body

Cons:
* Brand name/Prestige?: not sure how far it extends. How well is it perceived in the US (and Asia) in comparison to Booth?
* Brexit: if EU citizens become internationals, competiton will more than double for MBB and IB
* Say I choose LBS and don’t get a job in Europe thanks to Brexit, LBS will NOT open doors for me in the US (rumor?). This makes LBS a huge gamble (in terms of ability to pay back loans and more)

CHICAGO BOOTH

Pros:
* An M7 with great brand recognition in the US (Con: heard it's limited to the midwest. True?)
* I’ve heard Booth has a much better oiled system of recruiting, whereas many LBSers are still scrambling to figure out where they’ll work a few weeks before graduation
* Some of the warmest people I’ve met over my travels are Europeans

Cons:
* Personal: my heart says, “Be irrational. It’s a gamble but go to LBS!”
* Booth has a weak cohort structure, where you meet a lot more people but the connections aren’t strong (unlike LBS)
* Boothies are supposed to be more socially awkward and less friendly. This is a HUGE con for me, as someone who thrives in a vibrant community

Hello boothvslbs

You are fortunate indeed ;)

I would disagree with cons you put for LBS.

If there is any European Business school that has strong brand in US and especially Asia it would be LBS.

I cannot but laugh, when you said that Booth brand is limited :-D

They way I see it, Booth is stronger brand anywhere in the world.

I would choose most probably Booth in your situation (however I also tend view schools from my specialization point of view, which is Finance ), although I must admit living in London is tempting in itself and LBS is the best there.

Having said that, I do think you should go your "what heart says" route, meaning to LBS.

Heart is never wrong

Taking everything said in consideration, I am sure you would be very happy there, which is most important thing.

And I would not called it gamble at all, LBS will open doors for you in London/EU, US and Asia.

You should not be afraid of that.

Good Luck with final decision, you cannot go wrong whatever you decide, still heart maybe already decided the right choice ;)

Instead of voting for Booth, what was my initial idea when I saw the title of the post, I am voting for LBS after reading your personal reasons

*Update: Why Booth scholarship is not mentioned in initial post ?? You are messing up now, with my evaluation :) That really (potentially) changes the narratives, but because of the "heart" thing, I am going to leave my reply to your original post unchanged in terms of verdict.
Maybe the fact that you left this info in introduction post, really suggest that you strongly want to go to LBS
In that case, just negotiate with LBS the better deal. Use Booth scholarship as leverage.

You are welcome

Booth with scholarship seems like the easy call here. Booth has incredible MBB/IBB on campus presence and the stereotype of Booth students being social awkward is quite inaccurate (this tends to be the case at UChicago undergrad). If you can make it to First Day, you will get a much better sense of the opportunities and culture that exists at the school.

Great options.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems like perhaps you are romanticizing LBS a bit? On paper, I think it's not close, Booth is the stronger, more prestigious option and checks all the "outcome" boxes you need. Echoing what bb said, I believe LBS was a solid tier below. Adding in the uncertainty of geopolitics and what that might mean for recruiting, from an outsider's perspective this is an easy choice.

I work closely with an LBS grad who expressed difficulty in using his LBS US network when he wanted to return to North America. Among certain circles it is known, but it is far from a household name the same way Booth is. When helping me narrow my list he said "unless you are married to Europe, stick with a US program." Extremely anecdotal I know, so take it for what it's worth (which may be not much).

Good luck!

I am facing the same dilemma. Got offers from Chicago Booth, LBS and NYU Stern. Finance background. Aim to do IB or PE post-MBA in Asia. Any thoughts?

It would be better to start a separate topic - would you mind doing it or do you need any help? (Just click New Topic button). That way we keep things neat and clean :blushing
Thank you.
