Does BYU take Asian students? I just saw a video of byu in which it mentioned that byu consist of 98.5% are mormons and 1.5 are rest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Lh4E2TcmUEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpx1Gp_E0pEBYU IS 98% Mormon because it is a religious institution owned and operated by the LDS Church. Mormons flock to the university from all over the globe because it's a Mormon owned and operated school named after a "Prophet", while non-Mormons who don't live in the immediate vicinity of the school are largely indifferent. Undergraduates are forced to take religion classes (from the Mormon perspective) and all students agree to live by an honor code based on Mormon scripture. You'll be living in a community that is overwhelmingly white Mormons, most of whom will assume you're a member of the church because you chose to go to BYU. NON Mormon students tend to drive an hour north and attend the University of Utah, which is just as prestigious, in many respects more highly regarded, arguably easier to get into, doesn't penalize you financially for not being a member of the Church, has no "honor code", and where all your classes are directly related to your degree, not the predominant faith.
All that said, BYU bends over backwards to achieve cultural diversity. Being from Asia gives you an edge in admissions, even though they won't admit that publicly. If you don't get admitted it will be in spite of your cultural diversity, not because of it.
I applied to BYU because it's cheap, well ranked, it has a strong alumni network, my wife is Mormon and so attending BYU makes my in laws happy and proud, and (perhaps most importantly) it's the closest school to my house. The University of Utah campus is another 20 minutes away and costs $15,000 more to attend, so not the best option. That all said, I have to admit I'm curious why so many of you folks from outside the Salt Kake City / Provo area are interested in attending. It sounds like many of you aren't LDS and it's not exactly a convenient school to get to. If you don't mind me asking, what's the attraction?
