A whole lot of dings from CBS. Mostly for people who applied in August.

Could this mean that apps saw a surge?

I have score 326 ( 161v,165q) is that competitive enough for Indian male entrepreneur for J entry?

Suggestions and comments appreciated. Thanks

Where is this information from? I checked clear admit as well, not a lot of dings.

Hi guys,

I have just been invited for interview at Columbia which is great because J-term is the best timing for me (I don't want to wait for like 1 year more)

However I am concerned about Covid-19 (I am an international student) affecting my ability to fly there or if classes will be online, hence I applied to a couple more schools starting second half next year.

Just want to check if I am fortunate to be accepted, after paying the deposit, can I still decide to go for another school in December?

With your sort of profile, I would definitely not recommend starting the Columbia J term 2021 program, for the following reasons :

1. The length of the program is roughly 16 months, out of which you will probably be doing 8-11 months online
2. Your profile gives you a great chance to get into much more advanced programs like the FT MBA programs at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, and Yale
3. The J term MBA program is not as recognized as the regular intake program

In conclusion, I would strongly advise you to wait out the entire COVID situation, Columbia is most definitely not going to return any money to you, if you were to change schools. International flights may open, but that does not guarantee your entry into the country. You have a great profile and GMAT score, don't rush into decisions

Yes! I am looking for similar groups! I was accepted to the Columbia J term program on 27/09/20.
I just wanted to check if anyone had more information on - what duration of the course would be online and if it would be worth the huge investment?

From what I'm gathering, the Indian F1 visa holder's entry into the US right now is quite dicey and many students have been sent back from the airport. Also, that the next visa appointment is in March 2021!
Since the course starts in Jan 2021 and ends in April 2022, I most definitely do not want to spend all that money to do the majority of the course online, without the actual MBA experience.

A major reason for my concern is that I have been accepted to the Oxford MBA program that starts next fall and I am currently deciding between the two.
The fact that the UK is opening up faster and that it is more flexible towards Indians is making me lean towards Oxford!

Any advice on the same would be hugely appreciated!

I am not too sure on the visa front. But in case the next appointment for visa is in March (I have not checked myself) then obviously spring will be online.

I'm also a J-Term admit from India but have been living in the US for a while. I'm seeing a lot of fair concerns here, mainly around the MBA experience itself and general immigration issues. Here are my two cents:

Firstly, the way things are going, MOST b-schools right from the M7s to lower tier schools will likely be following a hybrid format until the fall of 2021. If there's an effective Covid vaccine in the interim, that timeline might change. Therefore, if you are sub-27 and the in-person experience is the most important aspect for you, deferring your b-school plans by a year or two maybe the way to go. If you are not or you're dead set on going to b-school this year, you have to become accustomed to the fact that return to "normalcy" is a moving target and CBS or whichever b-school you accept will have to abide by federal and state rules. Safety first, simple as that. I would even argue that while the hybrid MBA is obviously not the same product from a social perspective, for those who are looking to try different things, it's easier to jump from meeting-to-meeting via Zoom than via in-person. So from a recruiting perspective, it's a bit more advantageous and I actually hope b-schools continue some form of virtual recruiting once the pandemic ends.

With regards to immigration, that's a different animal altogether. F1 visas for universities like CBS are virtually guaranteed. However, assuming you manage to get an appt and get here, keep in mind post-MBA, you will have to deal with the horrendous H1B lottery system. So definitely have a chat with yourself with regards to spending all that $$$ with a 50% possibility of being kicked out of the US 2 years after you complete your MBA from whichever university in the US. In this aspect, while UK/Europe might have a better immigration system, except for LBS and INSEAD, no other international school (including Oxford, Cambridge etc.) comes close to the recognition and pedigree an M7 MBA will give you globally.

Bottom line, it's definitely not an easy decision to make but depends on which of the trade offs you are comfortable with given the current global situation and which decisions you can live with long-term.

Congrats to those who made it and best of luck for those waiting to hear back from CBS and other schools.

Hi everyone! Can someone speak to how long the background check takes when accepted? How many of the past employers/extracurricular are verified?

Hi Guys,

Has anyone who has applied closer to the deadline received any communication regarding the interview?
What is the average time between submission and when you receive an interview invite ?

I submitted on October 1st, should we expect interview invites to be sent sooner? Since we are getting closer to January ?

Will the J term acceptance rate be around the same as it is normally (40-50%) or lower because of COVID??

Also what kind of people get rejected from J Term ? Would someone with a high 600 gmat and high GPA + international student and family background be a good candidate ?
