By Dave Lewis, Class of 2016 “You’ve got to find the program that’s the right fit for you.” I heard that countless times when I was preparing my applications for b-school. Even though I attended admissions events, and even visited campus, I knew I needed to have a few more one-on-one conversations. I found myself wondering, “how do I figure out which school may be right for me?” I wish I could give you a formula or app that answers that question for you. But I think the real answer is: it’s a bit different for everyone. You’ll know it when you find it, if you put effort into getting to know a school, its people, and overall culture. Countless calls, emails, and conversations with current students and alumni led me to the conclusion that Booth was the right fit for me. There’s no better way to get a sense for a school’s culture than to connect with current students. To that end, I encourage you to take advantage of the Connect with a Student tool on our website. This simple search engine allows prospective students to contact a current Booth student with shared interests or experience - such as pre-MBA career, student group interests, home country, or intended future industry. As a co-chair of the Booth Armed Forces Group, Booth’s student group for military veterans, I work closely with Admissions on outreach to prospective students, particularly in the military community. Co-chairs across a variety of other student groups have worked closely with the Admissions team to develop this tool, and we’re excited to connect with you. Prior to Booth, I was an officer in the US Army, then worked for an e-commerce startup. After I graduate in June, I’ll be staying in Chicago to work as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group. Personally, I’ve found a great ‘fit’ with Booth’s pay-it-forward culture, emphasis on intellectual curiosity, and tight-knit community of diverse, inspiring people that love to work hard and also have a ton of fun.
