check DMs At least one recommendation should reflect your performance in your most recent professional setting. Volunteer activities or other service-oriented roles in which you are deeply involved may also be excellent sources for recommendations. The most valuable recommendations come from people who know your professional skills and abilities. just saw this on the duke website is this an absolute requirement? what about for applicants who started their most recent job during pandemic and haven’t even seen their manager or the rest of their team...

But your managers can still assess your performance. I mean they are participating in company appraisal cycles.

i guess im confused about whether its saying one recommendation letter should be from your immediate direct manager? or from someone who can speak about your performance in your most recent professional setting as in "at the company you work for"
