Anyone here got an interview who’s in tech (software engineering, specifically)? Or who’s based in New York, whether by job or by education?

reapplicant here.... didn't get interview... man I really know where I am short so that my soul can rest in peace...

is there anyway to get some free professional feedback on my application and tell me where I am short? that way maybe I will apply to a few more schools in round 2

I believe you have one more chance on Thur (or am I off and this is it for a re-applicant?)

The issue with professional feedback is that 1) it is person and 2) it is time consuming, so it is hard to do for free or on the forum.
I would recommend that you either ask a current student/alum who knows you or if faster/easier, you can always pay for it - consultants tend to offer "Ding Analysis" after the sea of Interview invites subsides. I did a quick search and found this for $265 but I am sure there are more options out there.

I'm sure this isn't the answer you want to hear, but it would be really hard for you to get meaningful feedback for free. Other admits/students only know what worked for THEM and maybe a few friends. Admissions consultants have years of experience and the collective knowledge of thousands of applicants' materials. Usually when someone comes to us for a ding analysis it's immediately clear where they went astray -- it is hard to have that objectivity with your own materials.

Best of luck!

Erika, could you let us know how hbs decide the first 75 versus the 25 for the second wave? Is there any preference for the first wave?

I am an international applicant but located in the east coast in the us in a decently densely populated city and did not receive an invite. Would this be a bad sign? I heard peeps from sf nyc and boston chicago should hear back first.

There is truly nothing to really read into here, as frustrating as that might be. SOME invites were definitely location-based as the adcom is flying around the world and also realizes that some applicants will need to fly in. But I don't have any other information other than that.

Other factors include the last-read materials might just need a few more days of review and decision-making. NOT because they are inferior or anything, but just because they were the final ones reviewed.

Rest assured that I have had several stellar clients who received invitations in the second wave AND who were ultimately admitted. I know it's hard, but try not to read anything into it!

Thanks Erika! I submitted my app around 10 pm the night before the deadline. How does adcom review apps? Do they review whichever apps were submitted first right after the deadline?

I honestly don't know that, and I imagine it could differ year by year. I do know at least two people review each application, though. They make break them up my industry or many other factors as they are trying to put together a diverse class on many different fronts. Again, don't make yourself crazy about it! Not worth it -- try to distract yourself with something else for the next few days. You will have a response from them soon! Best of luck!

I was notified that the email for the additional recommender will come shortly.

Stephenm0518
Let me know what they say and I will do the same. I just thought SEAs didn't even look at it until you were accepted by the MBA program since you can't get into just the SEAs part.

Nugget22
I am not sure either, but I was going off of the guidance online here:

"Interviewed candidates must submit one additional recommendation for the Master of Science portion of the application. The recommender form will be made available to you with instructions via email at the time you are invited to interview. The recommender should speak to your technical capabilities and experience."

But yes, I'll probably follow up with the admissions team with an email.

Stephenm0518
I thought it worked a little differently. You had to make it through the MBA admissions first then SEAs looks at you for acceptance. I think it might come out later in a separate email after the send all invites. I'm probably gonna call or send an email after I schedule the interview.

Anyone else feel silly for even bothering to apply? I suppose people don't normally get into harvard with a 2.9 gpa but maybe the adcom got a good laugh out of my essay. If nothing else atleast I think I'm funny lol.
