Hi all, for the awards and recognition section in the application, is it appropriate to list something wherein something you worked on was awarded? E.g., my business got an award or a program at work I was responsible for

Or did people list personal awards?

At Admissionado, we work with countless Harvard candidates each year. The essay is very open-ended by design, so there is no wrong answer.

If, however, you are looking for a "script" you are best by capturing your career to date, a high-level view of your career goals (short and long-term, if appropriate) and then why an MBA/HBS. Tie this all together with an umbrella, overarching theme about yourself and where you are going - and you're golden!

Despite no word limit, keep it under 1,000 words or you'll lose your reader.

If anyone would like expert help with this essay, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Admissionado for a free consultation. We offer school packages and hourly support - whatever makes most sense for your needs and budget.

Hi there - I dedicated episode 62 of the B-Schooled podcast to the HBS essay, if that helps!

Best of luck!

I've had applicants I work with include awards if the award was for a team or project they had direct involvement with. If there's any room to include your part on the project, definitely do so. I'm not sure if an award for an overall business would be appropriate (unless you're the CEO/founder or something) -- would need more context for that.

Hope that helps!

Hi Erika, thank you for responding to my question, info is indeed very helpful! (Also yes it was my personal small business that won an award)

Hi,

As an Indian female applicant who has demonstrated significant leadership in both work and volunteering setups, would it make sense to apply with a 710 GMAT score to Harvard in R2? My post MBA goal is to join consulting with a specific focus on retail practice, build the expertise and network and get back to my startup in the foods space.

I have a friend (Indian Male) who made it harvard in r2 with even a lower score. Not sure why you’re doubtful...go for it!

How many times have you taken the GMAT? If you haven't taken it 2-3 times, I would recommend continuing to try and raise your score. You are in one of the most competitive and oversubscribed demographic buckets, so you will need to do everything you can to stand out. If your GPA is not at or above HBS's average, then the GMAT becomes that much more competitive. I would also say that you should have 4-5 years of experience under your belt to ensure you have a lot to bring to the classroom to share experience-wise.

Don't rush to submit in Round 2 if you are not 100% confident that you are submitting your absolute best materials and candidacy.

Hope that helps!

Hey all- just submit my application ahead of the Round 2 deadline. Will they let me know if my application is in review once submit? Or will I basically just wait for either an invite to interview/waitlist/rejection? This is my first application (the rest of my apps have been through the Consortium), so any insight is appreciated!

Good luck to all!

You should eventually receive an email confirmation that you will be considered in Round 2. Your application is not considered complete until your recommenders' letters are also submitted.

Best of luck!
