Dear
Pulkitr7,
Below is my evaluation of your profile.
GRE: Average as far ISB & IIM B is concerned, slightly below par as far as IIM A is concerned.
Academics: Above Average; good GPA and a tier 2 college will work well with adcoms
Work Experience: At first glance, your experience seems to be from the Over Represented pool of applicants applying with Data Science background. You can make your case stronger by talking about specific projects / specific industries you were part of and how you were able to create an impact. Do make sure that the focus should be less on your technical skills and more on your Soft Skills and Industry understanding.
Extra-Curriculars: <Can’t comment due to lack of information provided>
Goals: You need to be specific about your short term career goals and hence state either PM OR Management Consultant and NOT both
To answer your queries,
1. Which Areas to focus for “Interviews” – I am assuming you are referring to IIM B’s interview only since ISB’s R1 is still due and IIM A’s shortlist is yet to come. For interviews as well as application, you should focus on how you intend to add value to the cohort based on your experience and personality traits. Since a lot of applicants apply with prior Data Analytics background (ZS, Accenture, BCN, AbsolutData, Dunhumby, L&T, Major IT Service players etc), it will be important for you to succinctly highlight your USP and how you are a cultural, professional and academic fit to the cohort. Additionally, you should also be able to convey in a very logical manner how your experience so far while combined with the MBA education (from the particular program) will expedite your career progression plans.
2. How to project my goals? – Apply the X+Y=Z framework, where Z: List of all soft and hard skills you need to become to succeed as a PM or Mgmt. Consultant, X: List of all soft and hard skills you currently possess, and Y is the bridge – what is lacking in you and how you believe the MBA from specific school will help you build those skills.
Note: For 1 year MBA Programs, as a rule of thumb, Y <= 50% of Z – meaning that you should come to the program with equal or more skillsets reqd. in future.
I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been guiding applicants successfully navigate their admission journeys for the last 6 years. Feel free to reach out if you seek professional assistance.
Cheers and all the very Best !!
