Hello Everyone,

I wish all of you best of luck.
I got accepted at Rice business school and I have an offer from Brandeis business school. Brandeis offers me 30K scholarship more than what Rice offers.
I would appreciate your advice. Could I ask Rice for higher scholarship and share with them Brandeis offer or I’m not comparing Apple to Apple here since Brandeis doesn’t have the same reputation and branding like Rice?
I’m more into Rice but the scholarship makes me reluctant. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Congrats! I would say they are not comparable to each other hence don’t feel you can negotiate Rice with Brandeis offer. I might be wrong, but this is how I feel it.

Sorry to know you didn’t get an admission.
I couldn’t find Fisher in the FT 2023 ranking, hence I feel they are not comparable. Again, I might be wrong on relying on ranking to decide whether they are comparable or not.
If the admission was from a higher ranked Business school, I feel it would have helped.

Even in US news ranking, Rice is placed much higher than Fisher, So I dnt think that would help.

How many other people in the waitlist are agreeing to continue being in the waitlist?

I have an admit from Boston College and UT Dallas. Do the people on this thread have an opinion on whether I should accept the offer from either of these unis considering that I want to get into strategy/consulting post MBA (if yes, which one)?

Congrats you got in. I agree Rice is much better positioned in all the rankings, so there is a big gap between the 2 b-schools. Anyway I will assess your career goals, you can check the employment reports from the past years and see the companies that commonly recruit at Rice. For other side 30k if well it looks like a ton of money if you compare the Cost of living in Houston vs Boston , there is a big difference..Houston is much cheaper... so I would consider that too, besides the weather if it's important to you (warmer and humid/vs cold and fresh), ton of fortune 500 and 1000 in Houston, close to Austin that is getting very noisy, and also Dallas. Regarding the scholarship I think you can always ask, if it's in a respectful way and explaining your situation. I hope it helps and good luck in your journey

For reference, I tried to negotiate with Rice using a full ride to UTD MBA but Rice didn’t increase my scholarship package at all. Still, doesn’t hurt to try.

The reason for the waitlist this year is likely because they extended another round for applications. That being said, from most people that I talked to Rice is a regional school with a big focus on Oil and Gas and the Houston market. So unless, you are keen to get into the Houston market or into energy, then probably a good idea to pass on the waitlist. That's just my two cents.

Dell & HP seem to be the only tech companies that have a relationship with the school for recruiting. Good connections in Oil/Gas/Energy sector for IB & Consulting.
