For English proficiency, does LBS prefer IELTS or TOEFL over Duolingo? I’m considering Duolingo as it’s more convenient and affordable. Would that have any impact on the admission decision? Also, what would be considered a good score for IELTS or Duolingo, and should I just meet the minimum requirement or aim higher?

Hello,
I’m a London Business School alumni and interviewer. So there’s no bias that adcoms hold towards or against any of the three- you can go with the exam that you feel more comfortable about. Though, if you’re applying to any other bschool as well- might be wise to check their requirements as well as some of them don’t accept duolingo in the first place.

Even if you just meet the minimum requirement, you’ll be fine as they only need the score to verify that you can comprehend English well. Beyond that, it’s not a major component that contributes towards their decision.

Hello,

Anything done before your undergrad (your 12th and 11th grades) aren’t relevant when applying for a Masters.

To be able to better comment on your current base profile and areas of improvement, I’d need more information about:

1. GMAT/GRE plans
2. What were the 2 internships?
3. What other things do you’ve as a part of your interpersonal profile (club/fest engagements, community impact, entrepreneurial project, research work etc).

The adcom looks at all three aspects of the profile (academic, professional, interpersonal) equally and assess them against the criteria they’ve as a part of their scoring sheet. Hence, to be able to deliver a genuine feedback, I’ll need more information.

You can reach out to me on WhatsApp on +91 99714 44312 to discuss further.

What should be my target score for LBS?
For early career programs (MIM, MAM, MFA) and MSc Finance- 655 FE+ ideally

For MBA- 675+ would be ideal

This doesn’t mean that you can’t get in with a lower score. For instance, one of my students got a 100% scholarship in MAM with a 595 FE in GMAT and one of my students got into MBA in R3 with a 316 GRE. However, I’ve just listed the ideal scores above.

Hi, is there a substantial difference (wrt acceptance chances and the scholarship pool) when applying in R1 vs R2?

And is a Round 2 application feasible from a visa processing perspective?

Either you apply to R1 or R2, application for admission and application for visa through CAS( CAS is a document released by the UK university after your admission, through which you apply for UK visa) will not make any difference. In both these spaces, you need to have a strong application. For application to admission, you need to showcase killer aspects in your candidacy. For the visa, there should not be any unexplained discrepancy. With calibrated guidance, you can overcome both these hurdles.

For UK visa:
1. You need CAS post your admission
2. TB test done from the designated center. Applicable for the Indians.
3-Showing one year tuition+ living expenditure. That fund should be there more than 28 days in bank.
4-You might require a birth certificate if showing the bank letter from the parents' accounts. In the birth certificate, there should not be any discrepancies in the candidate's name and parents' names. If there is a discrepancy, there is a way to tackle it.
5-Immigration Health Surcharge fees which is around 1.41 Lakhs currently
6-Visa fees that should be around 50-60K according to current rate.

Depending on your demographic pool, applying in R1 could be slightly advantageous, as the slate is clean.

Having said that, R1 vs R2 should depend on the strength of your overall profile (GMAT/ GRE, work-ex, essays, LoR etc.). If you feel you can improve any of these dimensions (e.g. increase the score or significantly strengthen your essays) in R2, applying in R2 would be a better idea.

Hi! I’m from Ukraine and now I study at IESEG School of Management in France (top-10 in the country) on the Bachelor of International Business program with a specialisation in Finance. Used to work for Disney World Orlando as a Merchandiser for 2 months and for Hyatt Regency Dubai as General Cashier, Cost & Income Auditor for 3 months. Starting from September I will start my academic exchange semester at IE University in Madrid. My GPA is 4/4 and my GMAT is currently 575, but I will get to 650+. I also studied International Economic Relations in Ukraine before the war started and was elected as a class representative three times over there. I have 8-year experience in ballroom dancing on the national level. Back in Ukraine I was a part of the debate club and also practiced debating in IESEG. I am also a Barca fan and a fan of F1. As to my other hobbies, I am interested in international relations and travellings. What are my chances of being accepted to LBS MFA program?
