Re: Calling all NUS MBA Applicants: 2023 Intake Class of 2025 [#permalink]
As an Alumni, I’d strongly advice avoid NUS. It is not humanly possible to get an MBA job in Singapore or the ASEAN on the strength of your MBa. Just check the profiles of people who graduated. Except a few, most people took up jobs that were just about survival and paying back the loans.

I don’t know if they share the correct salaries.

I would not term that as negative rather an advice based on his experiences. What he has told has surely some kind of evidence if you look into the profiles of ppl getting job. Singapore is a small job market and with Insead present there already ,it could be tough(not impossible) out there.

Perhaps one can take his advice and carry out some more informed research before making a decision.

He is partially true....as in the interview itself they asked me what if You are sent back to India as companies in Singapore prefer Locals ...also the alumni who was part of interview was in china post his MBA as he couldn’t find job in Singapore

if not NUS, which MBA in Singapore can help you to get a job? INSEAD ? a 10 month programe with more than 100k euro fee. It’s your job experience and how you take the advantage of MBA can secure you a job. NUS is a strong name in singapore market, don’t make such a negative assumption like that

I have had this feedback from a close friend as well who just completed his MBA from NTU and looking for job there. Because of the Employment Pass salary criteria, things get more difficult. The global slowdown further complicates it.

I’d just like to mention that on NUS’s website, there is clear info on employment statistics post mba: https://mba.nus.edu.sg/career-development/ . I don’t know if these figures are skewed or inflated in some way, but they definitely show that it isn’t "humanly impossible" to get a job in singapore after doing the mba. As others have pointed out, it might be more difficult now because of the global economic slowdown, but this won’t be permanent. Also, if NUS brand value doesn’t provide employers a good reason(apart from other factors) to hire you, then what else would? It’s not like NUS and Nanyang are tinpot institutes lol. Both universities have tools/programs that can help you find a job, but at the end of the day its up to you to make the effort to find one. (Please note that i’m not an alumnus and wrote this based on my own perspectives and research. If there are any alumni here that disagree with me, i’d be happy to hear why).

balthazar98, Has NUS stopped posting employment updates post covid? You link shows data from 2019.

In one of the info sessions, the MBA admissions representative denied sharing new data for 2021 or 2022. I would love to get inputs from current students on this

I believe so, I don’t see any data post 2019(I’m guessing if there was updated info, it would be in the link I have shared). If there is new data about this I’d also like to know

In my interactions with the NUS alumni and friends and relatives in Singapore, I have found them very positive about job opportunities for internationals. Surely there will be some struggle as is the case everywhere, but NUS has one of the strongest brand recalls in the APAC and that definitely adds merit to your employment opportunities. I wouldn’t term finding a job in SG "humanly impossible" even by a stretch.

Usually decisions can go on until the end of the admission cycle which would be end of Round 3. It is preferrable to mail the adcom also as they might have a better timeline of what to expect.

the adcom has not given any dates or expected timelines. at least to me. if anyone else has any details or has heard back from them, please post the reply here.

This is what I received: "We are focused on reviewing applications as quickly as we can and will inform you if additional documents are needed."
