Yes, unfortunately, you have to wait till the decision day to know of a final result. If you haven’t received an interview invite till then - you would either be waitlisted or denied.

First, I am intrigued as to how did you reach to this figure "20".
Second, interview invites are sent on rolling basis. That means that they would process some applications -> invite the suitable candidates -> continue processing new applications.
Some schools like Ross, Wharton, HBS, etc process all applications before sending out invites. Schools like Tepper, Haas, GSB, etc do it on the rolling basis. So, you gotta wait it out patiently.

So if my status does not change by the 20th, is it safe to assume that my application will be probably be a ding?
