For those who were accepted off the waitlist, what did you do to improve your application? I'd appreciate any advice as I'm currently waitlisted and Tuck is my dream school. Thanks in advance!
Here are my 2 cents regarding being waitlisted.
1. Re-think about your overall application strategy. For those of you being internationals with Tuck as your dream school, you will get the decision by May 5th. For U.S. applicants, there's a slim chance to be admitted in June.
2. Look at the pool and statistics for applicants from your country, who share similar backgrounds/industries. Compare the number from this year to last year, you may get an estimate on the remaining seats.
3. Thoroughly introspect your whole application, or have other friends/colleagues read it for you, to identify your weak spots and areas for improvement. I remember Tuck Co-Executive Director Amy posted an article about waitlist strategy on the Tuck360 blog, I found it very helpful when reading it.
4. Make your waitlist update focusing on the weak spots you identified. Articulate your "why Tuck" story, and remember to let them know what you can bring to the community, rather than re-telling how much you love about this collaborative community.
5. Stay connected with one of the AdCom members or admissions staff to make your update and maybe schedule a call to reach out. You really want to make sure you give them a good impression.
6. I believe you have done enough talking with current students and alums, I don't think it's very necessary to spend too much time on this part unless you haven't done enough to learn about the program.
7. There are about 40 days left till the round 3 decision date, and you should leave them for at least a week for decision making. Therefore I recommend an average candidate to make 1-2 updates in the next 30 days.
Hope it helps, and keep the hopes up. I understand the pressure and anxiety, but it's an important step we gotta take. Being waitlisted means you are just as qualified as the admits, just stay strong and prove yourself again.
