Got the invite with the link for scheduling the skype interview.

I know it seems trivial, but just out of curiosity- is there any difference in choosing one of the several members of the adcom who you can interview with?

I'll be there, but will not get in until after the Friday dinner.

For those interviewing:

-Know *why you need/want an MBA*
-Know *why you want an MBA NOW*
-Know *why Vanderbilt is the right program for you*
-Research the program and speak to what concentrations/emphases/specializations/clubs interest you
-Know what firms recruit Vanderbilt students if there are some you are specifically interested in
-Demonstrate you have realistic short-term and long-term career plans
-If at all possible, visit

On the Owen website there is a lot of great information. Vanderbilt publishes one of the most comprehensive career reports of any MBA program. The course catalog is available online as well. Make good use of this info when weighing your decision to attend and preparing for interviews.

GL to everyone!!

Good luck everyone with interviews. Please post your questions here or send messages to me or thisisatestonlyatest. We will be happy to help.

Lot of people have asked me whether to apply now for R2. I recommend you to work on your app thoroughly and submit it close to deadline. There is no incentive to submit earlier. Your apps will be evaluated after R2 deadline.

These are good points.
It is very important to know your limitations and have realistic career goals. You should be able to build a story to support your goals using your past experience and what you will gain from MBA.
Also, think about a backup plan if your short term goals don't materialize for one or the other reason.

Good luck!

Unless you don't get an official email from adcom, it's not a ding.
Keep your hopes high. This process is very stressful but everyone has to go through it.

Good luck!

Had my interview last night via skype- bad experience. I think internet screwed my Vanderbilt admit chances.
Firstly, interview started on time at 10.15 pm and at 10.16 pm the interviewer could not hear me out properly. So she insisted on having a phone call.
Then the interview started once again at 10.17 pm and when I ended the call, the time was 10.34 pm. It included last 5 minutes of Q&A session wherein I asked some 3-4 questions about the program.

Now I am confused as to what should I make out from this short duration of the call. The basic question like "Why MBA?" did not even come up once during the entire 13 minutes of interview. She asked just - why owen? ST&LT goals, about my work ex, transferable skills, weaknesses, strengths.

Is this short duration interview a hint to a ding/uninterested adcom?

I don't think it is a definite no. Mine was pretty short at almost every school I talked to. I think if you did your ST/LT goals properly that gets at why MBA. Take a deep breath not everyone even gets an interview. It's not a ding though.

Gmat clubbers.

There are some current students hosting coffee breaks in cities around the world and the U.S. over fall break. More will come over Christmas break. If you are interested in meeting let me know or just go to one of these places.
