Hi jrrs,

Most Programs do not publish a 'minimum' overall Score requirement to apply - but they typically do publish average GMAT/GRE Scores and/or "middle 80 percentile" data, meaning that you can reasonably define the type of Score that you would need to be considered a good Applicant. You also have to be careful about trying to compare your overall profile to those of just a couple of other people (re: other Applicants who were accepted), since you will almost certainly differ from those people in certain key ways (and trying to 'mirror' someone else's details will not guarantee you anything). Your focus should be on properly 'marketing yourself' (re: all of the aspects that make YOU a perfect Applicant for that Program).

From your post, it's not clear where you are in the overall process, so it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) Have you put in any study time for the GMAT or GRE yet? How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs/mocks (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to School?
6) Are you considering any other Schools besides CBS?

Thanks for the advice! I have not yet applied. I am just graduating next year so I'm going to apply in October. I decided only this last month about taking a MSc program, so I'm still trying to figure out what I got to do. I will probably take my first Gmat at the 2nd half of September, so I will start studying now. Do you have any recommendations for a studying schedule?

Hi jrrs,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet. If you want to take the GMAT in the latter half of September, then you would be giving yourself just 1.5 - 2 months of potential study time - and that would likely limit how much you could improve. It would also help to define your Score Goal (if possible) - since it's quite helpful to have something to compare your practice results to.

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.
