Hello,
I have a problem about creating my GMAT Profile: My surname on my government issued ID non-alphanumeric consists of letter "ý" which is a normal letter in my language-it is a letter of Slovak extension of Roman alphabet.
On one hand I should enter my surname as it appears on my government issued ID and on the other hand I should enter only Roman alphabet characters-these instructions contradict with each other in my case. Could I ask you for your insight, please?
Thank you.
tele - Hello, and welcome to the forum. If your government-issued ID consists of non-Roman characters in whole or in part, then you should check the regulations page of the country in which you intend to take the test:
https://www.mba.com/exams/gmat/about-the-gmat-exam/location-specific-pricing-regulationsIf you want to take the GMAT™ in the U.S. or some other country that uses the Roman alphabet, and your IDs are all written in your native script, then I would contact GMAC™ to ensure that those forms of identification would meet the requirements. If it is just a "ý" that could be rendered as a "y" in Roman characters when you register, then I doubt there would be any problem. On the other hand, if there are several variations that would make your name illegible to a non-native reader--i.e. that your name in your native tongue and its Romanized counterpart look quite different, as they might in, say, Cyrillic--then again, it would be worth it to contact GMAC™ to ensure that your forms of ID will be acceptable.
Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do.
