I'm excited to try this today! It will be interesting to see how many repeats there are from other products.

Particularly if there aren't many repeats, it is a great opportunity to use these for additional "fake" practice tests using official questions. If you're going for a high score, I recommend selecting all mediums and hards. (This product includes 149 medium or hard verbal questions, and 131 medium or hard quant questions -- enough for 4 full tests)

Big thanks to GMATNinja for a great explanation of the details of doing this: https://gmatclub.com/forum/experts-topi ... 44293.html

Below is a breakdown of the 406 questions in this product (199 quant, 207 verbal). This does not include the 90 free questions that you start with.

My guess would be (based on the past releases of questions and my inner intuition), around 50%. Still not a bad deal even at that level.

Any percentage wise idea as to how many questions are completely fresh?

I did a "fake" practice test of 67 questions today, and recognized none of them from GMAT Official Practice, or the past several years of OG's, or verbal paper tests. I think many of them are older questions; several of the RC passages were originally posted here in 2004.

6 of the 16 passages are currently posted on GMAT Club with a timer, and are tagged as source "Other". bb, any idea of what the original source of these might be? And if these are tagged "Other", I wonder how many other official questions are posted but not tagged as official questions.

2 additional passages are untagged, in the "RC Archive".

Interestingly, the passages posted on GMAT Club include more questions per passage: for these 8 passages, the product has an average of 5.125 questions per passage, versus 7.625 on GMAT Club.

Below are passage numbers and the links:

An issue with using these for "fake" practice tests is the variability on RC:

1) Questions Per Passage (see the data in the screenshot below): if we are doing just mediums and hards, 6 of the 16 passages have 1 or 2 questions, while 4 passages have 5 or 6 questions.

2) Random variability in the number of passages you will see. For example, on my set of 36 today, I got 19 RC questions across 5 passages, but I believe this was bad luck. (with 48 total medium and hard RC questions across 15 passages, a set of 36 verbal questions should average about 12 RC questions and 4 passages)

Despite these drawbacks, I still recommend using these for "fake" practice tests -- practicing precision and intense focus, using official questions.

Note: it's important to select ALL of the undone verbal problems when you set up your "fake" practice test, but only do 36 at a time. Otherwise, the issues with RC become significantly worse-- for example, testing this today, I got 8 different passages when I selected only 13 RC questions.

Yes true. I did notice too after purchased it and give it a shot. Rc passages are my true passion.

What you pointed out is also true. ETS for the GRE over the years is doing the same thing. Maybe they cut off some superfluous questions from the bill.

Ben, Is there any other better way to attempt these questions to avoid the occurrence of multiple RC passages ?

How many of those 6 RCs have only 1 question and how many have 2 questions? I can live with 2 questions, but 2 seem like very bad experience.

What do you think about including the RC easy questions as well on the fake test? (I’m at V41 level ~~)

What do you think about including the RC easy questions as well on the fake test? (I’m at V41 level ~~)

sweetlyimproved You're right, this is far from ideal, but timed sets of official questions are still great practice. Including only mediums and hards, 4 passages have 2 questions, and 2 have 1 question. Full details are in the screenshot below. Yes, it is reasonable to include the RC easy: the advantage is you are less likely to have too few questions per passage, but the downside is you are more likely to have too many questions per passage and/or too many total RC questions.

If you're around V41, I also recommend the GMAT Official Advanced Questions (https://amzn.to/3cZ4Ckf), which you can set up at efficientlearning.com. Unfortunately, this also has RC issues if you're trying to simulate a practice test; you can randomly shuffle CR and SC, but the RC passages are always put at the start of the problem set. For example, in a test I just did, a set of 40 problems had 15 RC problems at the very start, from only 2 passages. (There are 50 RC questions spread across 8 passages, for an average of 6.25 questions per passage. The range is between 4 - 8 questions per passage.) In 3 other tests, I got 6, 10, and 20 RC problems, so it can vary wildly. Potentially, you could set a separate countdown timer, and adjust it up or down if you get a wildly large or small number of RC questions. Alternatively, set it up in "Study" mode and hit the "Next" button repeatedly to check the question composition before starting the set; the downside of "Study" mode is that it can be distracting to immediately see whether your answer choice is correct or incorrect.

Best wishes with your GMAT Training!

Nice. Thanks a lot.

I had a 740 (q49v40) on my last GMAT. Trying to improve for my last shot on the GMAT 2 weeks from now.

So if you select only medium and hard questions we would have 4 passages of 5/6 questions, 4 of 2 questions and 2 of 1 question (I think that’s not too bad, Only the 2 passages of 1 question would suck, but I can give me an extra minute if that happens idk). Do you know how would that profile of questions be if we selected easy, medium and hard questions?

I’m also using the Advanced in parallel, but not as practice tests. Using it for specific set of CR, RC, SC and Quant... I’m having good accuracy on those (80% SC 90% rest) but times are 10% higher than they should be. Is that normal since Adv is harder? Any suggestion on how to better use this material?

Gmat410 Unfortunately, other tutors and I have tried to find a better way to ensure the right number of RC questions, but have not been able to.

However, here are 2 additional ideas I shared above:

1) Set a separate countdown timer (I recommend a timer app dragged to the top right of the screen, where it would be located on the actual test), and adjust it up or down if you get a wildly large or small number of RC questions.
2) Set it up in "Study" mode and hit the "Skip" button repeatedly to check the question composition before starting the set; the downside of "Study" mode is that it can be distracting to immediately see whether your answer choice is correct or incorrect, and it can also influence your thinking for the next question of an RC passage.

sweetlyimproved Below is a screenshot of the RC question breakdown when you include the easy questions; one passage has 2 questions, and 5 passages have 5 to 7 questions

740 is excellent, and if you are scoring 80-90% on Advanced, I'm confident you have a great shot to score even higher on your upcoming exam -- best wishes!

As discussed above, it is difficult to use the Advanced for a verbal practice test, because of the RC issues, but I recommend doing 31 questions in 62 minutes for quant (set up 40 questions but stop after 31) -- it's helpful to practice the intensity, precision, and pacing required on the actual exam. This will be harder than the actual test, but it's good training.

Yes, it's normal to take longer on the Advanced questions; I would not be concerned about 10% higher time. 80-90% is excellent accuracy on those. I'd recommend continuing to work hard on the SC, with a goal of 90% accuracy. On the actual exam, 90% verbal accuracy (3 mistakes out of the 30 scored questions) usually results in a V44 score.

Yes, Adv is harder -- here is some concrete data for RC questions, thanks to the GMAT Club Timer Accuracy %:

Advanced: on average, 59% correct

OG 20 Overall: 67%
OG 20 Easy: 76%
OG 20 Medium: 68%
OG 20 Hard: 61%

14 RC questions from official CAT #4, scoring V41: 67%
13 RC questions from official CAT #1, scoring V51: 67%

Any suggestion on how to better use this material?

sweetlyimproved Below is a screenshot of the RC question breakdown when you include the easy questions; one passage has 2 questions, and 5 passages have 5 to 7 questions

That's a really amazing analysis. Thanks for that.

I got really disappointed with GMAT Software today. I tried to do the Verbal Fake Test but the connection was lost on question 16 with the following message:

"The connection is lost due to network fluctuation or server being busy. You will logout of the test on the click of ok. Please login to continue the test after sometime." And my internet hasn't fluctuated, so it was a problem on their system

Now, I couldn't get back to the test after relogging in and now my pool of fresh questions is contaminated with questions I already attempted

Has any one gone through something similar?

sweetlyimproved I'm sorry to hear that; that is certainly quite frustrating. I haven't personally experienced this, but clients have had occasional issues with both the practice tests and practice problems at GMAT Official Practice; there is certainly room for improvement there.

Thing with this is, i hate how they set it up in one cumulative bundle like this as opposed to wiley gmat portal. e.g. if i have the free 90 + practice set 1, i cant tell which ones are specifically practice set 2

My guess would be (based on the past releases of questions and my inner intuition), around 50%. Still not a bad deal even at that level.

if you have bought multiple gmat official product/practice bank alraedy, any idea how to just do the practice test 2 question pool?

dvnielng, good question -- unfortunately, the only way is to do all of the earlier questions, before activating the new product. Then, you can select just the "Not Answered" for your problem set.
