A new smartphone app that encourages healthy eating by tracking daily nutrient intake has reported significant user weight loss after six months of use. The developers claim that the app’s reminder system, which prompts users to record their meals and snacks, is the primary reason for this weight loss success.

In evaluating the developers' argument, it would be most important to determine which of the following?

(A) Whether users of the app also engage in regular physical exercise apart from using the app
(B) Whether other similar nutritional tracking apps also show similar results in terms of user weight loss
(C) Whether the users had tried other diet methods before using the app and had not seen similar weight loss results
(D) Whether the reminders from the app are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app
(E) Whether users continue to lose weight or maintain weight loss after the initial six months of using the app

A - Provides an alternate explanation for weight loss. If the answer is YES, conclusion is weakened. If NO, conclusion is strengthened. Seems like a good option
B - Irrelevant. We are not concerned about comparison with other apps. Eliminate
C - Even if this were true, it would still be the case that the reminder feature of the app helped in weight loss. Eliminate
D - Irrelevant. We are not concerned about comparison with other features in the app. Eliminate
E - Even if this were true, it would still be the case that the reminder feature of the app helped in weight loss. Eliminate

Option A is the answer.

(A)--This is important but it does not directly address whether the reminders are the primary cause of weight loss. Physical exercise is a confounding variable that could contribute to weight loss independently of the app's reminder system
(B)--While this could provide context about the effectiveness of nutritional tracking apps in general, it does not specifically isolate the impact of the reminder system in this particular app.
(C)--This could help establish the uniqueness of the app's effectiveness, but it does not directly evaluate whether the reminder system itself is the key factor.
(D)-- This directly addresses the core of the developers' claim by comparing the effectiveness of the reminders to other features of the app. If the reminders are found to be more effective, it would support the claim that they are the primary reason for the weight loss
(E)--This is important for assessing the long-term effectiveness of the app, but it does not directly evaluate the specific role of the reminder system in the initial weight loss.

So answer is D

In evaluating the developers' argument, it would be most important to determine which of the following?

(A) Whether users of the app also engage in regular physical exercise apart from using the app
INCORRECT
OUT OF SCOPE the claim relies in the fact of the system prompting users to record their meals

(B) Whether other similar nutritional tracking apps also show similar results in terms of user weight loss
INCORRECT
Even though similar trackings apps shows alike results, what matters is the method of prompting users to track their meals.

(C) Whether the users had tried other diet methods before using the app and had not seen similar weight loss results
INCORRECT
The claim is focusing on the features of the app, specifically the prompting to record meals rather than other methods out the app.

(D) Whether the reminders from the app are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app
CORRECT
As the app has different features which help people in losing weight, its convenient to know if it another feature is more effective.

(E) Whether users continue to lose weight or maintain weight loss after the initial six months of using the app
INCORRECT
Irrelevant, as the claim is about the significant loss wieight by tracking meal in a period of 6 months.

In evaluating the developers' argument, it would be most important to determine which of the following?

(A) Whether users of the app also engage in regular physical exercise apart from using the app.
If we consider this statement, we can form an assertion that "If the user's did exercise, then it was exercise that resulted in weight loss, If they didn't then it was app's reminder", so this does sound good.

(B) Whether other similar nutritional tracking apps also show similar results in terms of user weight loss.
Comparing the app with other apps, wont help to evaluate the argument.

(C) Whether the users had tried other diet methods before using the app and had not seen similar weight loss results
This statemet too, won't help evaluate if it was reminders or something else that did help in weight loss.

(D) Whether the reminders from the app are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app.
In this statement, there is a comparison among reminder and other features. This looks like a potentital contendor but again between D and A, I would prefer A.

(E) Whether users continue to lose weight or maintain weight loss after the initial six months of using the app.
We need to evaluate whether reminder causes weight loss not if it was effective for long or short term.

Hence A.

(A) Whether users of the app also engage in regular physical exercise apart from using the app - not talking about reminders as out focus is on app's reminder feature. Incorrect
(B) Whether other similar nutritional tracking apps also show similar results in terms of user weight loss - we are concerned with particular app only. Incorrect
(C) Whether the users had tried other diet methods before using the app and had not seen similar weight loss results - evaluation of app's reminder feature is needed. Incorrect
(D) Whether the reminders from the app are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app - Yes, if app's reminder feature is able to alter the eating habits, then it is the reason for weight loss. Correct
(E) Whether users continue to lose weight or maintain weight loss after the initial six months of using the app - Out of scope

To evaluate the claim that a smartphone app’s reminder system is the primary reason for user weight loss, it is crucial to determine if this feature specifically influences eating habits. The most relevant question is whether the reminders are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app. Therefore, the correct answer is D.

Oh yeah.. Day 3 and counting.
We got a really tough challenge with the Orange Team.
But we will make it. We will win, I'm sure.
Let's get started with our explanation for this topic on day three:

Identify the Question:
Evaluate type. looking for Premise and Conclusion.

Deconstruct the Argument:
A new smartphone app that encourages healthy eating by tracking daily nutrient intake has reported significant user weight loss after six months of use. - Premise.
The developers claim that the app’s reminder system, which prompts users to record their meals and snacks, is the primary reason for this weight loss success. - Conclusion.

State the goal:
Can it be a coincidence? Yes..
Can somethingelse can cause this effect? Yes..
Can it be baised? Yes..
Let's think of some possible solutions: if I told you that all this people that are using the app also go every day to diet program? would you think that they are losing weight because of the remainder of the app?
If i told you that the act of remainding of food can't cause of changing in habits?
Hence, We are looking for statement that in her one way it will strengthen the argument and on the other hand will weaken it.

Elimination:
A) UnclearImpact - If they exercise do we know how frequant and what exercise do they do? if we will assume they are losing weight by the exercise we are making an assumption that is not stated. Therefore - eliminate
B) No tie - If other nutrient also making wight loss, does it mean that the REMAINDER is the cause of that effect? maybe they have other way of making that effect? - eliminate.
C) No tie - as we saw on Answer choice B, here we also don't have any connection to the remainder of the app. the evidence that they tried other diet and failed doesn't make the remainder the cause of their weight loss.  - eliminate.
D) Ohh.. yea Exactly what we were looking for. If the Remainder can change their habits - our conclusion just got stronger. And if the Remainder can't change their habits - our conclusion is simply weakened. - Keep
E) No tie - What is happenening after the 6 month period is not in our knowledge. we can infer only from the given premises and it's not talking about the future. - eliminate.

THE END
I hope you liked the explanation, I have tried my best here.
Let me know if you have any questions about this question or my explanation.

Conclusion: the app’s reminder system, which prompts users to record their meals and snacks, is the primary reason for this weight loss success.
given
A new smartphone app that encourages healthy eating by tracking daily nutrient intake has reported significant user weight loss after six months of use

(A) Whether users of the app also engage in regular physical exercise apart from using the app
-- it does not help evaluate as it says physical exercise and app is used simultaneously..so if yes we cant say for sure that app is primary reason..if no we can say for sure that app has led to weight loss. hence answer

(B) Whether other similar nutritional tracking apps also show similar results in terms of user weight loss
-- other tracking apps will not help prove about this particular app's reminder system helping in weight loss, hence out

(C) Whether the users had tried other diet methods before using the app and had not seen similar weight loss results
--  whether users had tried other methods is outside scope as we need to see whether app's reminder system is the reason

(D) Whether the reminders from the app are more effective at altering eating habits compared to other features of the app
-- yes if they are effective compared to other features so we can say it is primary reason ..if it is not more effective which could mean it is as effective as other features so we can still say it is primary reason

(E) Whether users continue to lose weight or maintain weight loss after the initial six months of using the app
--whether users continue to lose weight is outside the evaluation scope and hence out

Answer D
Explanation: It is said that it is the reminder system who changed the habit, not the app itself, that eliminates C.
The answer must take about the reminder system, that eliminates A and E.
B would explain that other nutrional apps are also working but it wouldn't explain specifically if it is that feature that changes everything, so it is answer D.

OA = D

Our Domain is to find the app reminder system is indeed the primary reason or not. The other option are not related to App remainder system apart from option D.

If the ans of option D is yes, then indeed the reminder is useful.
If the ans of option is no, then app remainder system is not primary reason of it.

so OA = D

We need to find an answer choice that most strengthens or weakens the argument's conclusion when the answer is yes or no (for whether).

Evidence: Users significantly lost weight after 6 months of using a tracking daily nutrient app.
Conclusion: The app reminder system that helps users record their meals and snacks is the main reason for their weight loss.

A. Out of the scope (the app).
B. Out of the scope.
C. Out of the scope.
D. Strengthen the conclusion if the answer is "yes"!
E. Not directly relating to the conclusion.

D wins.
