Well... you can if you want to volunteer to be a judge - we are looking for a verbal moderator but you will be disqualified from winning prizes as you would have all the answers 🤯

I have a query regarding 30 timer ques. It has been mentioned that these questions need to be attempted in the DS/PS/CR/SC forums (RC is not eligible) taken during competition days. As we all know SC has been removed from the New Focus Edition. So, how it can be SC? Please explain.

Thanks,

Hi, I'm very new to GMATClub so this might be a dumb question, but for the questions I've seen here so far, the timer could be started whenever. How is it ensured that people do not start the timer after partly or completely solving the question so as to minimize the time taken to solve? Will people be able to see the question only after the timer starts - and not be able to pause it midway - and probably be able to view the timed question only once?

Hi,
As far as I understand, only the correctness of the answer matters for securing the points, and the time taken to solve the question doesn't.
It is a good practice to start the timer for two reasons:
1) You get an idea about your current level depending on the time to solve a question.
2) The question-answer gets logged to the GC's error log, and you can refer to it later.

Thank you! This is a mistake with SC - that's carry over from last year's details but let me check about other DI forums to make sure those are counted. I will update the first topic shortly wiht the final ACCURATE sub-forum list.

So SC is still eligible. It is no longer in the GMAT but it is on EA.

So the forums that are supported for the 50-point bonus are PS, CR, SC, DS, TPA only.

Thank you,
BB.

Hi. Thank you for the question.
Yes, you can take 10 minutes or 20 minutes per question and it would not matter. Only your answer impacts earning points. You will get some bonus points for even attempting the question but most points will come from a correct answer, and posting an explanation, demonstrating that you actually know how to solve the question and didn’t just guess it.

The recommendation for explanations is as follows:
1. Quant and DI - you can solve the question
2 CR - you need to identify the correct answer and also explain why the other answers are incorrect so there’s a little bit more work on the verbal side.

PS. Your understanding is correct. It is better to use the timer and give yourself an accurate idea of how long you took. it also helps the community as all the answers feed into the massive database and then calculate the question difficulty based on all of their attempts. Over 1 million timers are taken every month.

Hi. Welcome to GMAT Club viciopherous

Great question.

There are two Components:
1. Taking the question with the timer
2. Posting an explanation. This is harder but this will help you a lot to learn!

You can take as much time as you want to solve the questions. There are some bonuses for attempting the timer within the first few hours but you can post the explanation anytime within 23 hours after the question has been posted. The timer does not play a huge role so you can start your time early or late. You just need to make sure you get more than six seconds don’t just click the answers because sometimes the system doesn’t register timers that are less than six seconds.

I initially misinterpreted it and figured that the points awarded would be a function of the time taken as per the timer, as in, answer quicker against the timer, get more points. Thanks for clearing it up!
