Franklin School of Business is organizing a weekend series for business students to learn from academic and business experts. The series will be in the form of interviews with experts and will take place on the first Saturday and Sunday of the spring semester. On both days, five speakers will be interviewed, each of them will either be a faculty or an entrepreneur. In alignment with the school’s pedagogy, the majority of interviews on one of the days will not be from Finance. On the other day, at least four entrepreneurs will be interviewed. Neither day will have more than two interviews with experts from the same industry.
Four experts on each day have already been confirmed. The following schedule shows the experts’ details – profession, area of expertise, and industry.
Saturday
O’Reilly: Faculty, Finance, Fashion
Hoffman: Entrepreneur, Marketing, E-commerce
Epstein: Entrepreneur, Marketing, E-commerce
Jenson: Entrepreneur, Finance, Retail
Sunday
Martinez: Entrepreneur, Finance, Retail
Kahl: Entrepreneur, Finance, Retail
Wahba: Faculty, Strategy, Education
Emanuel: Faculty, Operations, Manufacturing
Select an expert who could be the fifth expert on either day. Then select an expert who could be the fifth expert on neither day. Make only two selections, one in each column.
To select the fifth expert for either day and determine who could not be the fifth expert on either day, we need to consider the constraints provided:Four experts on each day have already been confirmed. The following schedule shows the experts’ details – profession, area of expertise, and industry.

Now let's apply the constraints:
Constraint 1: The majority of interviews on one of the days will not be from Finance.
- For Saturday: 2 of 4 are from Finance (O’Reilly and Jenson).
- For Sunday: 2 of 4 are from Finance (Martinez and Kahl).
Adding another expert from Finance to either day would mean the majority of the interviews are from Finance, which violates the constraint. Thus, no more Finance experts can be added.
Constraint 2: On the other day, at least four entrepreneurs will be interviewed.
- For Saturday: 3 of the 4 are entrepreneurs (Hoffman, Epstein, and Jenson).
- For Sunday: 2 of the 4 are entrepreneurs (Martinez and Kahl).
Since Saturday already has three entrepreneurs, adding one more will satisfy this constraint, ensuring at least four entrepreneurs are interviewed on that day.
Constraint 3: Neither day will have more than two interviews with experts from the same industry.
- Saturday has 2 from Marketing and E-commerce (Hoffman and Epstein).
- Sunday has 2 from Finance, and Retail (Martinez and Kahl).
Selection for Either Day:
We need an expert who is not from Finance and who does not belong to an industry that already has two representatives.
Considering Saturday:
- We need either a Faculty member (to keep a majority non-Finance) or an Entrepreneur not from Marketing or E-commerce (to keep industry variety).
Considering Sunday:
- We need either an Entrepreneur or a Faculty member not from Finance and Retail (to keep a majority non-Finance).
Either day: Mulick: Entrepreneur, HR, Automobiles
- Adding Mulick would maintain the entrepreneur majority for Saturday and ensure no more than two experts in the same industry for either day.
Neither day: Crowe: Faculty, Finance, Sports
Experts from Finance should be excluded to prevent a Finance majority. Also, adding more experts to already represented industries should be avoided.
