the manager is saying that the training sessions get poor feedback. the reason is that the case study materials are outdated. so the conclusion must logically suggest a fix for this, preferably one that makes use of more current and effective material.

statement 1 should directly address the problem of outdated case materials.
the only option that does this clearly and aligns with the second sentence about simulations being more engaging is
"we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations"
this fits logically after stating the materials are outdated and solves that problem directly.

statement 2 should support this switch. the second sentence already introduces a potential objection — that printed casebooks are cheaper upfront.
the next sentence should justify the cost of simulations.
"when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks" directly supports the use of simulations despite higher upfront costs and reinforces the value argument.

the other options either suggest continuing the old approach or suggest that simulations aren’t worth it, which contradicts the earlier point about simulations being better.

final selections:
1 — we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
2 — when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks

statement one clearly has to be about online simulations per the subject matter of the rest of the argument; online simulations is literally stated in the passage--> correct answer: we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations

the second statement should pertain to cost because of the " Although traditional printed casebooks are less expensive upfront than many alternatives (such as updated e-books)," statement
and " Our company's annual leadership training sessions have recently received poor feedback. statement

correct answer: while the initial cost of online simulations is higher, the return on investment through improved training outcomes does not justify the expense

Manager: Our company's annual leadership training sessions have recently received poor feedback. A major issue seems to be that the case study materials we use are outdated and no longer reflect current business challenges. Therefore, I suggest that ____1____. Although traditional printed casebooks are less expensive upfront than many alternatives (such as updated e-books), interactive online simulations are far more engaging and better tailored to modern leadership needs. Furthermore, ____2____.

Select for Statement 1 and for Statement 2 the two sentences that best complete the argument. Make only two selections, one in each column.

we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
> this is __1__ as the follow up lines continues to compare the printed vs interactive online.

online casebooks remain the most cost-effective solution
when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks
> this is __2__ connecting to the initial problem of poor feedback

while the initial cost of online simulations is higher, the return on investment through improved training outcomes does not justify the expense
> this is trap answer for __2__ because of the the phrase "does not justify the expense"

The suggestion for blank 1 needs to address the problem of outdated materials and align with the idea that interactive online simulations are more engaging.

“we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations.”
— This directly solves the problem by replacing outdated content with a modern, engaging alternative.

For underline 2, we need a reason that justifies the higher initial cost by showing long-term value.

“when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks.”
— This aligns perfectly by showing that better training outcomes make the investment worthwhile.

For 1 - As current method is outdated, so we should look for an option providing an alternate method - “ we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations”

Now statement is support how his new method will add value and furthermore - we should look for an option adding more value from hence
2 - “ when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks”.

Statement 1 (C) directly addresses the manager’s concern about outdated
materials and poor engagement. Replacing printed casebooks with interactive
online simulations aligns with the argument that these are more engaging and
better suited to modern leadership needs.
Statement 2 (E) strengthens the recommendation by justifying the higher upfront
cost of simulations with better long-term value, especially through improved

employee performance, which supports the manager’s goal of improving
training effectiveness.

Select for Statement 1 and for Statement 2 the two sentences that best complete the argument. Make only two selections, one in each column.

we should add supplementary lectures to explain the old case studies
--> the argument by the manager is to move away from old lectures

we should continue using the printed casebooks but update them slightly
--> the argument by the manager is to move away from old casebook structure

we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
--> Fits 1 --> The manager pushes towards interactive online simulations hence this is an appropriate choice

online casebooks remain the most cost-effective solution
--> no reference to this in the argument

when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks
--> Fits 2 --> The statement starts with "Furthermore" hence it should be in line with the choice of interactive online simulations hence this is an appropriate choice.

while the initial cost of online simulations is higher, the return on investment through improved training outcomes does not justify the expense
--> goes against the argument

IMHO
Statement 1 --> we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
Statement 2 --> when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks

What we already know:
 • The manager points out that feedback for leadership training is poor, due in part to outdated case studies.
 • The manager argues for more engaging and modern materials, such as interactive online simulations.
 • There's already an acknowledgment that these may cost more upfront, but are better tailored to modern needs.

Best choice for 1: We should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations.
This aligns with the stated problem of outdated materials and the solution discussed in the paragraph.

Best choice for 2: When factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks.
This strengthens the argument by addressing cost concerns.

Since the old casebooks are outdated, '1' is looking for an alternative. As we read in the passage the topic shifts to interactive online simulations therefore '1' should propose the change to be the interactive online simulation which is choice C.

'2' is suggesting a strengthening position to adopt the interactive online simulations. Hence choice E is the most appropriate.

First blank best filled by a statement that gives us suggestion inline with the stated problem that needs to be tackled
Second blank statement should be about more benefits of online simulations.

we should add supplementary lectures to explain the old case studies
Doesn’t solve the issue of outdated materials.

we should continue using the printed casebooks but update them slightly
Contradicts the manager's preference for online simulations.

we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
Statement 1. "interactive online simulations" are named later in the text. This addresses the problem and aligns with the manager's reasoning.

online casebooks remain the most cost-effective solution
Doesn’t align with the focus on interactive simulations or long-term value.

when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks
Statement 2. This supports the investment in online simulations by emphasizing their superior long-term value, which outweighs the initial cost.

while the initial cost of online simulations is higher, the return on investment through improved training outcomes does not justify the expense
Contradicts the manager's argument. It says value doesn’t justify cost, which undermines the suggestion.

Statement 2: "when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks"

Blank 1 Answer : 'we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations'
Since the manager mentions that the previous materials are outdated, it only makes sense to suggest to replace those.

Blank 2 Answer : 'when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks'
After the manager has proposed online simulations, he is trying to add support for this to justify the higher cost. So this option makes the most sense

Blank 1 - The manager seems to be arguing that the current case study materials they have seem outdated. The sentence after blank 1 suggests that the current case study materials are in traditional printed casebook form. If he's against using traditional printed casebooks going forward, then out of all the options, he could be suggesting to replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations. Answer - we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations

Blank 2 - The manager seems to be vouching for interactive online simulations for learning. He has presented us with his solution - replace printed casebooks with interactive online simulations. It makes sense that he would now provide some stats to prove that these online simulations provide more engaged learning and fulfills modern leadership needs. Out of all the options, "when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks" seems to provide the best case for online learning. Answer - when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks

Manager: Our company's annual leadership training sessions have recently received poor feedback. A major issue seems to be that the case study materials we use are outdated and no longer reflect current business challenges. Therefore, I suggest that ____1____. (Here we are introduced to an option for providing annual leadership training sessions. The continuing sentence tells us what this option is. And the conjunction "Although" tells us that we do not intend to continue with the status quo and tells us what this status quo is. Therefore we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations tells us that we are not continuing with status quo and introduces us to the new option.

Although traditional printed casebooks are less expensive upfront than many alternatives (such as updated e-books), interactive online simulations are far more engaging and better tailored to modern leadership needs. Furthermore, ____2____.

Finally we are told in this last sentence an advantage of the traditional printed casebooks i.e they are less expensive. However, the online simulation have an upper hand over this advantage by offering better long-term value than printed casebooks through employee performance improvement. This should address the issue of the poor feedback gotten from the existing solution.

As per the information given,
Statement 1 should be concerned with the statement "case study materials we use are outdated and no longer reflect current business challenges"
Statement 2 should be concerned with adding more pros or value to the statement "interactive online simulations are far more engaging and better tailored to modern leadership needs"

 • we should add supplementary lectures to explain the old case studies - this does not address the main concern which is outdated case study materials.
 • we should continue using the printed casebooks but update them slightly - While a slight update is better than nothing, it does not provide any potential for significant impact nor does it follow from previous statements.
 • we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations - This addresses the main issue and also provides an option to make the sessions more interactive. This fits Statement 1
 • online casebooks remain the most cost-effective solution - This is not supported by whats being mentioned in the passage as a right option for either of the blanks
 • when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks - This continues from and further solidifies the managers argument that "interactive online simulations are far more engaging and better tailored to modern leadership needs". This fits Statement 2
 • while the initial cost of online simulations is higher, the return on investment through improved training outcomes does not justify the expense - This does not follow from the managers arguments, not relevant.

Therefore, Correct options are,
Statement 1 : we should replace the printed casebooks with interactive online simulations
Statement 2 : when factoring in employee performance improvements, online simulations offer better long-term value than printed casebooks
