(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research. - Wrong
Wrong parallelism

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.- Wrong
underlined part does not make sense

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. - Correct
all the modifiers are in the right place and the meaning is clear

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. - Wrong
A perplexing result blah blah is far from what it needs to modify

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research. - Wrong
Grammatically seems fine but the essence of the meaning is lost

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research. - This is the correct answer. The word "the prediction" is correctly modified and the sentence is grammatically correct and well conveyed to the reader.

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research. - Here, "the prediction at the heart of each black hole" is changing the intended meaning. Hence, incorrect.

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. - Wordy and weird structure. Also, gravitational singularity is misplaced.

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. - Wrong. D is saying that the prediction ... is a point. It changes the entire meaning of the sentence.

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research. - The same as in D. gravitational singularity is misplaced

I think it is C

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research. black holes - plural, a point - singular

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research. Not idiomatic

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. CORRECT

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. Not idiomatic

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research. this should modify "the black" hole not "singularity"

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.
Hearts - Plural. A point - Singular.

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.
Clearly, the prediction is not at the heart of a black hole!

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
Looks good.

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
The black hole is not the perplexing result.

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.
This sounds wrong. The sentence before this was still ok.

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

If we break the sentence -
- One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.

Is the perplexing result of General Relativity is that the prediction that has been supported by subsequent research. This is not logical.

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.

Is the prediction at the heart of each black hole?

Again not logical

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

This choice expresses the intended meaning and is both grammatical and logically correct.

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

Is subsequent research a point where laws of physics no longer seem to apply. Incorrect modifier placement.

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.

Incorrect parallelism

If we break the sentence

The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity

The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, supported by subsequent research.

The second part has no verb.

"a point" refers to "gravitational singularity" and not "black hole". Gravitational singularity is a concept and not a location. Hence, "a point where" is incorrect. So, choices A and D can be eliminated.

"prediction" is repeated in B, making it long and wordy.

E is passive vs C is active. Hence, answer should be C.

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.
The perplexing result of GR presents two things :
- gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes
and
- has been supported by subsequent research
The structure of these two facts is not parallel
Wrong answer

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.
the result is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, and not the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity => Wrong answer

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

This is the correct answer, the two results are structurally presented => Correct answer

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply
According to this proposition, the prediction is the point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, whereas the black whole which is that point,=> Wrong answer

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.

This proposition implies that the gravitational singularity is the point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, whereas it's the black whole that is the point at which the laws pf physics do not apply

One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

Meaning. Gravitational singularity lies at the heart of black holes. Also, the Gravitational singularity refers to ' a point a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. This prediction regarding the Gravitational singularity has been supported by subsequent research.

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

No clear antecedent for 'that' -- whether result or prediction or 'point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply'

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.

Use of 'but' is not appropriate, it serves a 'contrary' meaning

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

CORRECT option; as per meaning -- prediction regarding Gravitational singularity has been supported by subsequent research

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

Awkward meaning -- prediction is not the perplexing result of General Relativity..tweaks the meaning absolutely

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.

last part of this prompt incorrectly mentions that the perplexing result of General Relativity has been supported by subsequent research, while it is the prediction regarding Gravitational singularity, which has been supported by subsequent research

Meaning is the key..
(C) is the correct answer..

Hope this helps..

My answer is "C" for this question

One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

It is unnecessary to connect "that has been supported by subsequent research" by and as it shows the two different actions
But the two actions are not different from each other

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.
Use of but is wrong

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
Correct

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
Meaning + Sentence structure + Use of but all are wrong

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.
Use of but is wrong

Question:
One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

Meaning:
1. There is a perplexing result of General Relativity
2. That result is gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes
3. At these gravitational singularities, laws of physics no longer seem to apply
4. This perplexing result of General Relativity is supported by subsequent research

The core part of the Sentence:
1. There is a perplexing result of General Relativity
2. This perplexing result of General Relativity is supported by subsequent research

Errors:
(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

Modifier issue - A point should modify singularity but it is modifying hearts.
S-V Agreement issue in modifier - hearts/singularities are plural. A point can not describe plural hearts/ singularities
Meaning issue - It seems that a single black hole can have multiple singularities or multiple hearts

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research.

Meaning issue - This changes the meaning of the sentence and the meaning becomes illogical. it says that the prediction is at the heart of each black hole.

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

Although this option corrects the modifier issue:
singularity is modified correctly by a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.
The Meaning/Core of the sentence is changed now:
1st - It says there are multiple perplexing results of General Relativity and this is one of them.
2nd - Prediction is supported by subsequent research - is a modifier now

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply.

Meaning issue - This changes the meaning of the sentence and the meaning becomes illogical. it says that the prediction is a point where laws of physics no longer seem to apply. it also completely changes the meaning of the sentence.

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research.

This corrects all the issues in the main sentence.
The Core Structure is maintained. The modifier is also correctly placed.
It also shows contrast correctly

Answer: E

One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research.

(A) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction that gravitational singularities lie at the hearts of black holes, a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, and that has been supported by subsequent research. --> Incorrect. that is ambiguous. Can refer back to a point or prediction.

(B) One perplexing result of General Relativity is the prediction at the heart of each black hole of a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, but a prediction that has been supported by subsequent research. --> Incorrect. Prediction happening at the heart of black hole doesn't make sense.

(C) One of the perplexing results of General Relativity is the prediction, supported by subsequent research, that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. --> Incorrect. not clear if that refers to research or prediction.

(D) The prediction of a gravitational singularity at the heart of each black hole, a perplexing result of General Relativity but one that is supported by subsequent research, is a point where the laws of physics no longer seem to apply. --> Incorrect. Prediction needs to be followed by that. Meaning of sentence seems to be prediction is a point where laws of physics no longer apply. This meaning doesn't make sense.

(E) The prediction that at the heart of each black hole lies a gravitational singularity, a point at which the laws of physics no longer seem to apply, is a perplexing result of General Relativity but supported by subsequent research. --> Correct. Prediction as a result of General Relativity makes sense.
