D. as many as twice the vials that the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, has.
E. two times the vials in a minute than the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, filled.
Thank you
sayantanc2k for the question!!!
A. twice as much vials in a minute as the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, has. WRONG.
- The vials are a countable noun - we cannot use much.
B. double the vials in a minute than that the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, did. WRONG.
- double introduces quantity - changes the intended meaning
- double THAN that is wrong - double that of or double of what is better.
C. twice as many vials in a minute as the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, filled.
CORRECT. FILLS twice as many vials as the old machine FILLED.
D. as many as twice the vials that the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, has. WRONG.
-twice the vials that the old machine HAS. HAS introduces possession. The old machine does not HAVE the vials, rather it fills.
E. two times the vials in a minute than the old machine, which was decommissioned last year, filled. WRONG.
- two times THAN is wrong. two times MORE THAN would be better, besides it would stray from the intended meaning.
