Posting this for posterity and future waitlisted applicants.

We (round 1 waitlisted post interview applicants) got an update from Eileen on February 7th at 3PM, stating that there should be movement in the waitlist no earlier than the end of the month of February. Historically 30+ candidates are accepted from the round 1 waitlist and she expect this number to hold.

It's Eileen Chang from HBS with a quick update.

We finished reading Round 2 applications and have begun Round 2 interviews this week. Interviews will continue through the first week of March.

Now that we have a complete sense as to the composition of our applicant pool, we will start making decisions on candidates on the waitlist.

In the midst of our waitlist review, it is helpful for us to know if you no longer wish to be considered for a place in the class. This is a reminder to please let me know if you would like to be removed from the waitlist to pursue other plans.

We anticipate that the first wave of decisions will happen no earlier than the end of February to give us time to see how the Round 2 pool comes through in interviews. I will be in touch at the end of this month with more specifics. Historically, 30+ candidates are admitted from the Round 1 waitlist and we don’t expect that to be any different this year.

Thank you for being patient with us. We know it is difficult to be asked to wait when you are eager to make plans. I am here if you have any questions, and we won’t hesitate to contact you if we need more information from you.

Expect to hear from me again in about three weeks.

Sincerely,

Eileen

Honestly not the most encouraging update we could have received... Does anyone have a real idea of how many people are on the waitlist?

But it's not negative though? I think she is just saying we won't hear back till end of Feb and the people that are getting let off the waitlist is the same.

Prob this year moves slowerly the previous years cuz of the elimination of round 3 so they are waiting to interview the majority of the invited candidates in R2 first before make a decision

You know what would have been negative? If she told us, they're good, they won't need a wait list lol. We could have been rejected in December, every day we're not rejected is positive news. At least that's how I see it.

Agreed. I don't think it's negative at all. It's just an update of the timing lol.

Based on prior posts there are anywhere from 100 to 150 Round 1 waitlisted applicants. With 30+ coming off the Round 1 waitlist the admittance rate is approximately between 20%-33%.

True, I suppose that assumes this year's Round 1 waitlist pool is still 100-150, though.

Even with no Round 3, I would not expect them to have more than 150 on the waitlist

How do we know that there used to be 100-150 on waitlist for r1? Did HBS release these numbers for the previous years?

Someone updated on the decision tracker that he got accepted from the WL. I thought Eileen said we won't hear back for another 2 weeks at least?

Yes I got a call from Eileen a couple hours ago saying I was accepted. She mentioned I am probably really surprised since she said we won’t hear back for another couple weeks but I guess their timing moved up. Good luck everyone!

Congrats! So happy for you. Did she let you know how many they will let off the WL and if calls are going out rest of this week?
