Hello Forum,
I need help. I am an Indian Male, Engineer working in Engineering and Project Management domain in manufacturing for the last 6 years. I have had my fair share of managing people as well as take data driven decisions. Right now my post MBA career goal is to work in Operations Consulting. I love my industry but I want to grow out of the functional role and be in charge of the big picture.
I am however confused with my long term goal as different things have been said by Application consultant and by other alumnis or current students (even though from different schools) I am not comfortable with changing my long term vision application to application. There are two scenarios (Please help me pick or suggest something better)
1- Entrepreneurship: I come from a family with background in business and multiple business ventures. I have specific goals about what kind of company I want to start and what impact it might have. However it has two issues, any long term vision is only realised after 8-10 years and Adcom or interviewer might ponder upon the fact as to whether a problem I am talking about right would even be relevant in 6-10 years. Also as per few students, Adcoms don't like people with entrepreneur goals primarily because it's risky out come and also because that makes it's harder for them to be placed. (post mba role/job)
2- This option however flows naturally with my short term goal i.e grow in Consulting and eventually reach a CXO or COO level position. This seems safe but at the same time is so frequently cited in applications that it might sound mundane and not even stand out. To top that I have zero consulting experience and other people who are from that background might find it easier to get selected because it's a natural transition for them.
Any insight will be helpful. Thank You!!
