Hi All,

I have scored a 610 in GMAT (Q 40 V 34). I plan to finalize this score. I have over 5 years of IT experience with 2 companies. I have been into software development and consultancy both throughout my career. My 10th and 12th is 84% and 74% respectively and my B.Tech is 7.7 CGPA.

What are my chances of admission in any IIMs for the 2020 batch? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I hope I am reading the score right as 610. If you see last years average GMAT score of IIMs, it was about 710. You may consider to improve your GMAT to ensure an interview call.

I know it's on the lower side, I also understand that IIM A B and C are too difficult with this score. Do I have a chance with other IIMs like Lucknow, Indore and Udaipur?

No idea about Udaipur. But last year I guess Lucknow score was about 640-660. Indore in the similar range probably.

Hi,
Please evaluate my profile for IIM Lucknow IPMX, IIM Indore EPGP and IIM Calcutta MBAEx programs:
Male, 31
GMAT:640 (Q48,V30, IR8) in the first attempt
Workex: 9 years as an SAP Software Consultant, promoted thrice; changed 3 employers: Worked with Accenture for 4 years, HCL tech for 2 years and EY for 3 years. Now working with SAP.
Xth: 88%
XIIth: 80%
Graduation: 69% BTech (IT)
Extracurriculars: Volunteer exp in child education, feeding India, organizing events in college and in professional career. Volunteer experience in AAP(political party) for 2019 General Elections campaign and door to door ongoing campaign for 2020 Vidhan Sabha elections.
The problem is, I have taken the GMAT 4 times and could not improve on my score from 640. My last attempt was also a 640 but with lower IR5. I saw IIM Lucknow specifically asks for GMAT score report which has my attempts listed down, although cancelled because the other two scores were below 640. Does it weaken my profile?
I would highly appreciate if you could suggest any other programs matching my profile to which I can apply and reach my goals.
Post-MBA: I want to move into IT strategy consulting; same industry but a different and functional role.

Hi Gauranga,

Your profile is a good fit for the one year programs at IIMs. Target a GMAT score of 680-700 and you should be good to go. However, competition continues to remain intense and you should focus on your application and how you can stand out and make a mark.

PM for further queries.

Regards,
Tridisha

Hi Pulak,

A minimum of 4 years of experience is necessary for IIM A. If you have 4 years of experience, aim for a 700+ GMAT score. Other than that, focus a lot on your profile and remember to highlight why even with a low work experience (lower than the class average), you deserve to be part of the MBA program.

Regards,
Tridisha

Hi Dev,

I have not heard of anyone get into IIM A, B & C with a 610 score in the last few years. You can try for IIM L and I; with a stellar application and SOP that might be possible.

PM for further queries.

Hi Equalizer, :)

IIM L and IIM I should be well within your reach with a 640 score. You can also try for XLRI, MDI and SP Jain. On the number of attempts, it should not impact your chances substantially; however be prepared to answer the reasons behind it.

Hi Midhila,

MBA schools need to maintain average GMAT scores of the class and 650 is substantially lower than the current class average. You should try to increase your score by 30-50 points before you apply to ensure selection.

PM for further queries.

Tridisha
