Hi Guys,

I am 35 years old, and by time I apply, I will be 36. I think my profile is strong, but I do not know whether my age pulls me down as a MBA candidate, If so How much does it diminish my chances.

Does somebody have any statistic or information about range of acceptance by ages?

Kind regards,

Manuel

Manuel,

Thank you for your post. As mentioned above, the average age at a lot of schools is 28. The age, but more accurately, the work experience, does have a significant impact on the chances of success. When admissions directors see someone who has 14 years of full-time work experience, they often ask the question of whether that applicant is best suited in a full-time MBA program or whether an Executive MBA makes more sense.

There are students who are 36 in almost every class every year but the numbers are not very big. If you want me to evaluate your candidacy and let you know whether you would be a good fit, please send me your resume and I'll give you the honest go / no go based on your profile. scott@personalmbacoach.com

Best,
Scott

So what impact your age has on your chances really depends on the school you are applying to as well (I don’t think there are any statistics for this really but the schools publish the average age of the students each year which does give you some kind of indication). Some schools are certainly more forthcoming towards older applicants than others, namely many European schools, but some US ones as well.

Of course what you have done during these 36 years matters too, so in order to give you a more thorough evaluation of your chances, as well as how your age plays a part in that I would need to know much more about you.
