Hi Siddharth,

It's important to remember that a CAT result is only as realistic as YOU make the CAT-taking 'experience.' Thus, YOU have to take the CAT in a realistic and test-like fashion, including taking the ENTIRE CAT (with the Essay and IR sections), at the same time of day as your Official GMAT, away from your home, in a test-like environment and NOT do anything unrealistic (pausing the CAT, listening to music, skipping sections, etc.).

This 710 is an 'outlier' relative to your other scores (and you took it without the Essay and IR sections), so we should be skeptical of how accurate it is. While it might be tempting to take lots of CATs, doing so is NOT what will make you a better Test Taker. A CAT is just a 'measuring device'; actual improvement comes from study, doing practice problems and quizzes, review, etc. The CAT is a way to measure your progress.

I suggest that you continue to study for another week, then take on the of Official GMAC CATs (with the Essay and IR sections). That score result should be a far better indicator of your actual ability level than this recent Test.

Taking a test at same time does make a lot of sense.
I took tests to increase my stamina. I tend to get tired during exam, especially after verbal question 15-20 my concentration level drops, and start making silly mistakes.

Thanks.

Wow. What a variation. Did you get any repeated questions in the 2nd gmat club test ? I think you can take another test from the gmat prep software.

There was 1 repeated question in Verbal, but I doubt 1 question can inflate my score to such an extent. Anyway I'll study for a week and take Gmatprep software exam, to see where do I stand.

I am on the same boat as the one you have ( I'll write same boat as you elsewhere but since I m studying SCs ;)). Anyway, I feel that the GMATprep tests are not very reflective of actual GMATs. Your actual GMAT will have tougher verbal questions and easier quant questions (according to others). So keep studying and don't be complacent :)

I would be curious what you get on GMAT Prep. FYI - the GMAT Club Quant scores are quite reliable. Jumping numbers like that likely indicate some anomaly such as not covering a topic (e.g. combinations or geometry) so the scores are lopsided as the result - sometimes when you have few of those questions you get a higher score and sometimes when those questions are in a different spot you get lower. One theory at least. The other theory would be running into questions you previously have attempted; even a handful of questions can give you a big advantage. GMAC supposedly checks for this and their study showed that supposedly 1-2 question familiarity did not have an impact on the test, but in practice tests that's not checked and does have an impact - you get extra 2 minutes of time and more confidence. That can be meaningful increase in score.

Good Luck!

Hi Siddharth,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, this recent score - when compared to the CAT that you took on September 7th - shows a general ability in the mid-600s. To raise your scores to a 700+, you'll likely have to make some significant adjustments to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. While it might be possible to improve that much in the timeframe that you've described, you'll like need more than a month to improve and consistently score at the 700+ level.

1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
