Hi
I'm looking for some advice to get a good score the 2nd time I give the GMAT. Let me give you a brief.
I first prepared for the GMAT last year in Jul-Aug with official mock scores of 750, 710, 750 and 690. My performance in the actual exam was dismal though and I ended up with a 660. I suspect it was because of anxiety and stress which were though the roof that day. I originally planned to give the GMAT again after a month or so but due to work commitments I had to take a break. I am now starting my prep again and hoping to give the exam by March end.
I have finished going through my notes and my fundamentals are also much clearer now. The
OG contains mostly easy questions and I've achieved a good accuracy for most of those questions. I am wondering now if it's better to just move on to harder 600 and 700 level questions instead of doing it again. I am sure my foundation is strong and I just need to practice as much as possible.
What are your thoughts? Any recommendations welcome.
Thanks
Hi avggmatstudent,
Getting back to studies after a break can be quite challenging. It takes considerable effort to stay motivated right till the end. It is important that you have a proper study plan and clear deadlines which will help you to stay motivated.
Having said that, as you are resuming your prep after a gap, have you taken any mock recently to assess your current level? If not, I would recommend you to take an official mock, analyze your performance and identify the weak areas. Focus on learning the right methods to solve the questions. For example,
• In CR, you have to understand the argument, identify the premise and the conclusion and then pre-think the answer before looking at the solutions.
• In RC, you need to have the right reading strategies to understand the inferences which are not directly stated in the passage.
I emphasize on learning the right methodology so much because
GMAT is a test of application of concepts and it is important to use the right strategies to score well. And as I mentioned earlier,
make sure you have a proper study plan with clear deadlines. Make sure you get it right this time.
All the best! Feel free to reach out in case of any queries!
